I submitted for my DTV as a remote employee on July 20th. Just got this back… I’m thinking they want tax returns and paystubs because my bank statement has myself and my husband on it and they want to see my individual income?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user submitted their application for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) on July 20th and received a request for additional documents, likely tax returns and pay stubs, to verify individual income. Comments discussed the necessity of this request, mentioning that embassies often require proof of income and suggesting alternative routes such as medical check-ups. There was also a discussion about the importance of contacting the embassy for inquiries prior to application submission. The user later updated the thread with news of their application being approved after three weeks.
UPDATE!! I just got Approved!! It took 3 full weeks!!🎉🎉

Bank statements can be faked.
Tax return / payslip a little harder
Wet signature again suggests they want proof you’re not faking documents.

So which documents did you actually submit initially? Just your passport and application form? At least they give you the chance to submit the required documents. In Australia they would have just bluntly reject your application
I submitted my passport, drivers license, location of stay when I arrive, incoming flight, bank statements and letter from my employer

Why even go down this route if it is hard to prove? Just book a medical check up appointment in a hospital or a cooking class, that should be way easier.
people who get the ltv for very rich people have to submit a lot more similar documents showing their millions. Not like that info is going to be on social media. Also many countries have a dual tax agreement with thailand and within that is agreement between your country and thailand they agree to share financial and other information if required. You can google us thailand dual tax agreement and it's right there... other countries going to be the same. That's just worried about nothing.
but if you apply as a remote worker you have to show that. Simplest is with a tax return and an employment contract. A simple letter is unlikely to cut it.
true. I guess it depends on what embassy apply at too. It does not actually specify you need to show income though just the 500k and that you can work as freelance/remotely.
I don't think it's the level of income they are looking for, just proof that you do actually have a job and aren't fabricating one just to get the visa
I just caught this… I think because my letter states that I have been employed since 2019— so they can ask… so as long as your letter dosent state the day you started if before 2023.. they may be ok
it sounds like you didn't file your taxes last year, or you would have no problem supplying it. Bank statements just prove you have the required equivalent of the bt500,000, not wage payments. It also asks for your employment contract to be signed. Is it?
what is the problem with supplying what they ask for if you have them? If you don't supply what they ask for you don't get the visa. It doesn't matter at all what you've heard as rumors about what other people needed, or didn't need. This only involves you, and what you are asked to provide. You cause a lot of stress for yourself by questioning this. Just give them what they ask for, and don't try to fight it. It is that simple.
they need your individual income if only you are applying for the visa.
Because you have a join bank account they can’t tell what is your income and what is his. It makes sense actually. Did you guys think they were just giving visas away? Haha. Especially because they can’t double tax on Americans.
not exactly. If you are out of the US 330 or more days you can use the FEIE to exclude the first 120k of income for federal taxes. Thailand could tax you for that amount.
ok, I know successful UK applicants did not have to supply tax returns/pay slips as remote workers. Each embassy enforces the rules differently, some more strict than others.
Glad to see you're making the move, congrats. Did you figure out a place to go or are you going to visit many places?
I imagine 'wet signature' mean notarized. My employer is cool but not cool enough to do additional paperwork, especially if that paperwork needs to be notarized.
Are you sending in hard copies or are they accepting all your documentation via web portal (are the accept eCopies?) ?
E copies and I got a pdf from my employer... no notarization needed. I was just in thailand two weeks ago and found a place, got everything already setup
