DTV application rejected in Hanoi – no reason given. Can I request reconsideration?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice regarding my DTV application and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar.

I applied for a DTV through an agent (Issa Compass) in Vietnam. My application was submitted to the Thai Embassy in Hanoi on 25 August, after I had already left Thailand.

Today, my agent informed me that my application was rejected, but they said the Embassy did not provide any specific reason for the rejection.

What confuses me is that on the agent’s application tracking system, my application is still showing “The government processes your application” and has not been updated to “rejected” yet. I haven’t received any direct notification from the Embassy myself.

I also noticed that the Embassy has recently updated some DTV requirements, and I’m wondering whether I may be able to provide additional documents or clarification if something was missing or unclear.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation?

• Can a rejected DTV application be reconsidered if I’m willing to provide additional documents?

• Is there any way to find out the reason for the rejection?

• If reconsideration is not possible, can I apply again immediately, or is there a waiting period?

• If I reapply in Hanoi, would I have to pay the government visa fee again?

I’m really trying to understand what happened before submitting another application, as I don’t want to make the same mistake twice. Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. 🙏
Answer summary
The user's DTV application in Hanoi was rejected without reason. They seek advice on whether reconsideration is possible, how to find out the rejection reason, the possibility of reapplying immediately, and if fees would apply for a new application. Community responses clarify that there is no reconsideration for DTV applications, reasons for rejection are typically not provided, and applicants must reapply from their home country or permanent residence. They must also pay the visa fee again for a new application.

Maybe because of this, and they don't care if you started the application in advance

Ask the questions to your next visa agent before you pay them a penny.

Have you any records (emails, Messenger etc) about the 'lot of back and forth from the beginning about where you should apply'? Issa Compass had a 100% money back guarantee (embassy fee plus their service fee) or a choice of one free further submission on vetted applications submitted prior to 31st August. From 31st August they guarantee a choice of either refund of their service fee (not embassy fee) or one free resubmission. We need to view the exact advice they provided, the dates and specifically what they said about their guarantee.

Tell them you want access to the evisa portal

At least then you can check what was or wasn’t submitted and if any mistakes were made

Do you have the sufficient funds?

Do you have a criminal record?

Do you have the correct no of months of soft power skills or remote work?

Finally, if you're a Vietnamese, why do you want to live in Thailand? Genuine question.

For a DTV. Is it true you need to have at least 10k GBP in your account end of each month for the past 6 months?

If you have did a proper research before applying ( including reading previous posts in this group, and following the group), you would have known, that no reason will be given in case of rejection, application fee is non-refundable and also answers to the rest of issues that has surprised you.

So do a proper research before applying.

If you are Vietnamese then consider applying from HCMC so it is a different embassy, but still in your home country.

I would avoid agents and do it yourself. You must be extremely thorough with the application.

I was recently approved in Hanoi. If it is a workcation DTV then I am happy to help you with it based on my own experiences, if you like. Fee free to reach out (I am not an agent or asking for anything in return, but a remote worker who was approved for the DTV workcation 2 weeks ago). I am not experienced with soft power applications so would not be much use if it's soft power.

Za Fixer No, unfortunately they won’t refund me. They actually suggested Laos because they said Hanoi has a higher rejection rate, but there was a lot of back and forth from the beginning about where I should apply. At first they suggested Hanoi/Saigon, then after I explained that my permanent residence is in Lam Dong, they said Hanoi was the correct jurisdiction. I had already booked my flight to Vietnam based on that plan, and later they suggested Laos instead. I didn’t agree because the plan had already been changed twice, so I decided to stick with Hanoi as originally planned. They told me the fee wouldn’t be refundable if I chose Hanoi. 😭

As I explained, they don’t!

SolidKiwi3260 there are 3 reasons you can apply for a DTV

1. Workation if you will work remotely from Thailand

2. If you will follow a Soft Power activity

3. As a dependant of someone else who has a DTV

I find it hard to believe that Issa has any more insights about your visa application you would have if you applied by yourself. They probably just update it manually for your convenience, and they probably don't even have an option to do it on their website.

There is no pathway for reconsideration and they rarely provide their reasoning. Which sucks because it leaves people like you in the dark and unable to fix what they can when they apply again...or to decide if it is even worth trying again because they can't fix the rejection issue.

Also, with the new rules, you are now going to have to return to your home country, or the country you have PERMANENT RESIDENT status in, to apply. You will now have to provide a criminal background check.

• Can a rejected DTV application be reconsidered if I’m willing to provide additional documents?

NO

• Is there any way to find out the reason for the rejection?

NO

• If reconsideration is not possible, can I apply again immediately, or is there a waiting period?

YES - home country or where you have PR etc

• If I reapply in Hanoi, would I have to pay the government visa fee again?

Unless you have long term residence or are Viet you cannot apply in Vietnam

OP
I applied under the Soft Power route, for a 9-month Thai cooking course at Bangkok Thai Cooking, which is a partner school of Issa. The course is specifically the one recommended by the agency for the DTV application. And all the documents and the application itself were submitted by the agency on my behalf, not through my own e-Visa account.

That’s also why I’m trying to understand what happened, because I was never contacted to provide any additional documents or clarification during the process.

Anonymous participant 950 'Assumption and speculation' is correct. Add a belief in the intentions of the Thai government and that you are privy to the numbers of workcation versus soft power DTVs approved. Why suggest an alternative visa? Have you some sort of grudge against DTV holders?

Anonymous participant 950 I'm sure you are all for DTVs and especially for soft power applicants. What you failed to explain is how you know that more workcation than soft power DTVs are being issued at the moment? If that is true it could be due to less soft power applications being made or more soft power applications being cancelled/rejected. Or, possibly both?

Just to clarify my situation, I’m Vietnamese and this was my first time applying for a DTV. So I’m honestly quite confused about what might have gone wrong :(

SolidKiwi3260 Unfortunately, they never give any indication why an application was rejected. Ask the agency used if they have any ideas on what it could be. Were you applying soft power or workation? How long was the soft power course if it was that route? Did you submit the application under your own account, or did the agency submit it for you under their account?

This looks like Issa Compass's own tracking system and update it manually. It won't be linked to the embassy. There is no reconsideration. Now you will need to apply in your home country or somewhere where you have long-term residence.

SolidKiwi3260 just a question for my understanding: why did you apply through an agency in the first place? You are a Vietnamese citizen and speak the language of the embassy.

Did you apply for soft power or remote work?

If they don't provide a money back guarantee, why choose them?
