After living / working here since 1997 (and Non B visa renewed annually by my school) I now face my first ever visa run am more apprehensive about it than perhaps I should. I plan to cancel present nonB and work permit on the day they expire 31st of July. I am informed I should then apply for a 7 day extension at a cost of1,900 B.
Then I plan to leave to Penang and return two days later after securing 2 month tourist visa at Thai Consulate . Embassy - whatever it is - and then continue my job hunt. I have UK passport. I was wondering if the process is straight forward enough. I've read something about a new regulation requiring entrant to country on tourist visa to show evidence of their onward flights out of the country. Obviously with family and home here I won't have any such onward flight details as I will be returning from Penang on the return leg of ticket bought in BKK.
Is there likely to be any problem, do you think? Also, does anyone know the cost of a single entry tourist visa in Penang? Have heard differing reports and even word they are free until mid August.
Thanks in advance for any enlightening advice to be offered.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A user with a long-term Non-B visa and work permit is concerned about their first visa run after living in Thailand since 1997. They plan to cancel their current visa and apply for a 7-day extension before traveling to Penang to obtain a 2-month tourist visa. They inquire about the ease of this process, especially the new regulations regarding onward flight proof for tourist visas, and ask about the costs associated with obtaining a single-entry tourist visa in Penang.
