What is the experience of applying for a Thai tourist visa in Kathmandu?

Sawasdee kaa. I will be applying for my 60 day tourist visa in Kathmadu. Anyone have experience with this office? It says it takes 3-5 business days for visa. Is this true? I’m trying to decide when I should return to Kathmandu as I’m traveling the country now. Thank you for advise.

And do I need all the normal stuff like proof of plane ticket...ticket in and out. I have a bungalow in Thailand so no hotel info. But I don’t have paper work/receipt for my bungalow. Should I just book one night online to show proof? Thanks for anyone who has experience here. I’ll post my experiences when done.

Hello
@Julie *****************
, did you get your visa in Kathmandu? I’m planning on doing the same in November. Thank you for any advice.

yeaaah! That is exactly what I thought, it stays on the forum for the next one. I’m still going to Nepal, but I already got my visa somewhere else. Thank you very much anyway. 🙂

I realize it might be a bit late for you, but thought I’d add my experience for the next person to search for this embassy. 🙂

I received a visa from here. I showed them my ticket leaving Nepal that was 3 days later and asked that they process in 2 days. They agreed.

I had 0 proofs with me, but they did ask about proof of funds. I didn't have access to anything at the time so I showed them my credit card (just the card-- not the statement) and they agreed.

The embassy was soo quiet, hardly anyone there at all and it was just so easy and friendly!

This was in April :)

Thank you very much for your answer. I was planning on applying on a Tuesday and receiving it on Thursday. I have been trying to call them to see if it was possible but no one answers. This changes my travel plans. Thank you again!

Yes Tito. I did. It takes up to 5 business days to process. Some countries allow to pick up the next day. Not the case in Kathmandu. So plan for extra days. You’ll need 1 Photocopy of your passport

3 Passport photos – 3.5 x 4.5 cm version

3 Thai visa applications - They actually have carbon paper.

Printed bank statement (application states that you need 6 months evidence, but I printed just my last one month bank statement and had no problem)

Oddly. You need to pay the 3,000 Nepal Rupees per entrance plus 50 NPR for bank fee at the Bank of Kathmandu before you can submit your paper work. There is one about a mile or less away. Then take that receipt to the embassy.

I hope this helps. Enjoy lovely Nepal. The spirit land. Namaste

I would recommend having all the things you can. I have been to several consulates. Sometimes they'll ask for all other times they don't. There has been occassion that they've asked for something that I did not have, and they were cool with it. You take chance. Regarding hotels - I believe there are options that allow you to book, not pay, then cancel. I have no experience with Katmandu

Are you American? Visa exempt for 30 days then extend for another 30 . I’m not an expert but that’s what I did. Then you can do a border run get another 30

if you don’t get a visa you only get 30 then ASAP go to immigration get extension for another 30 . If you need more then 60 you will then need to do a visa run . I flew to KL .

Did they ask you for proof of an onward ticket?

Go onto booking.com and book something for a month. Print the confirmation and then cancel the booking.

Most of the hotels have free cancellations before a certain date.

Just in case!
