TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation clarifies that if you are entering Thailand on a Canada exempt visa, you may need to present proof of an onward flight when you arrive. Although the visa exemption typically grants you a stay of 60 days, it is a single-entry only. Some participants suggest that you can do a border run to re-enter and receive another exemption, but caution that you cannot re-enter from a neighboring country and can only do this twice per calendar year for land entries. Others emphasize the importance of understanding the visa regulations and potential implications of overstaying.

One month in Hua Hin is a long time.

Thank you all

I ran across this. A muay thai gym is offering a ED visa for 148k bhat

You need to train muay thai boxing 3 days a week and do 1.5 hours thai language training on line

Multiple entry. All in for that cost. Renewable every year for 3 years

I am checking with thai consulate on that also to see if legit. Plus if I went for it I would do it in person

Seems interesting but alot of money

Just curious if you heard of it

exempt visa or visa exempt does it really matter? My advice......get a hobby!

@Carman ******
wow 148,000 baht. Do you find that a good price for 3 years but still have to renew every year?

Hi Philip. Like I mentioned it's alot of money. That's each year

It's actually intense

4.5 hours a day 6 days a week. Yikes. Lol

@Carman ******
I assumed one price for the 3 years. You can do a lot of travelling for that sort of money. Rent somewhere in bkk say 6000 baht a month and use that as you base.

Yeah i hear you. That makes sense

I appreciate it

It’s not exempt visa it’s visa exempt. So you have no visa, you have to apply for visas.

Immigration may ask for onward flights but I have entered and left Thailand visa exempt dozens of times in the last 18 months and only ever been asked either how long will you stay or when are you leaving, never asked to show anything.

That said, a more likely scenario is your airline may require you to show onward travel and if you don’t have, may refuse to fly you. I’ve been asked to show by Singapore Airlines and Viet Jet in the last 6 months.

Yes, exactly (I should have also mentioned that).

but they waive the fine for the

th day apparently. Not something I would want to do. As a side note my wife got fined for being 60 days over, 10 years ago. She was going to leave the country on her Thai passport but because she came in on an Australian one they didn't accept it

Fine or not, I would never exceed the 59 days limit. (various countries’ arrival documents ask “have you ever over-stayed?”) Harsh I know, but if your wife’s Aussie passport got stamped with an expiry date, I understand their very strict application of the over-stay rules.

10 years ago it was easy to get the "visiting wife's family in Thailand" visa at the consulate of course I don't have a family in Thailand for her to visit so she couldn't get one. She didn't get any nasty stamp in her Aussie passport. But they didn't want to accept her Thai passport. They told her to "lose it". We had no time to argue.

1. Yes this is required. Be prepared.

2. Yes and no. No, it's single entry, but yes, you can exit and immediately enter again.
Graham ******
Visa Exempt entry is single-entry, once you're in you're done.

An interesting scenario now arises while Visa Exempt is 60 days. If you've used your 2 land border Visa Exempt entries for this calendar year can you purchase a single-entry re-entry permit should you need to leave and return by land border. I suspect that should be allowed as your entry is still on your already issued 2nd land border Visa Exempt stamp. Anyone care to try this? lol
Stephen ********
@Graham *****
your cannot get a re-entry permit on no visa
Graham ******
@Stephen *******
Have you tried?
Stephen ********
@Graham *****
tried to get a re-entry on no visa? Ahhh no, do you think it makes sense that you can get a re-entry permit for no visa? What exactly would the entry permit be attached to if they don't have any visa? 🤷‍♂️ But if you want to try it, let us all know how you get on 👍🏻
Graham ******
@Stephen *******
The re-entry permit is a stamp that goes in your passport
Stephen ********
@Graham *****
yes, but it is to keep visa alive. How can you keep no visa alive?
Graham ******
@Stephen *******
It keeps your current status alive, the Visa would already be stamped USED
Stephen ********
@Graham *****
what visa? With a visa exempt there is no visa to keep alive 🤷‍♂️
Graham ******
@Stephen *******
I said status. The end.
Stephen ********
@Graham *****
it keeps you visa alive, your status would be relevant when in thailand, not after having left. Once you leave thailand, you have no status 🤣 hopefully that's the end 🤣🤣
Graham ******
@Stephen *******
Visa is USED, Status is maintained

@Graham *****
no, you can repeat. Its exemption from visa.

A visa you need to apply for
Graham ******
@Conny *********
yes I know it's not a Visa but what do you mean repeat, it is still only 2 Visa Exempt land border entries per calendar year?
Conny **********
@Graham *****
that is a repeat. Before you could do it indefinitely, now it's limited to 2.
Graham ******
@Conny *********
No, nothing has changed, 2 land border Visa Exempt entries has been the law since, I believe, 2016.

From the Thai Embassy site: “Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme

To be eligible for the visa exemption scheme, visitors must meet the following criteria:

* Hold citizenship from an approved country

* Hold a passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining

* Pledge to enter Thailand strictly for tourism purposes

* Provide verifiable proof of accommodation in Thailand such as a hotel or an apartment address

* Provide proof of funds to support their stay (minimum 10,000 THB for single travelers and 20,000 THB per family)

* Provide proof of a return ticket for exiting Thailand (open tickets do not qualify, and the ticket’s destination cannot be a neighboring country of Thailand)

Visitors may be asked to show their travel ticket upon entering Thailand. If they do not possess a ticket proving their exit from Thailand within 60 days of arrival, they will most likely be refused entry.

There is no set entry limit for visitors entering Thailand by air, but visitors who enter Thailand by land or sea border and hold normal (non-diplomatic) passports will be granted visa-free travel to Thailand only twice per calendar year.”

So, you may be asked for proof of your ticket for leaving Thailand.

Another site said that doing a ‘border run’ then coming back, can’t be to a country adjacent to Thailand.

You also only get two visa exemptions a year when entering by land.

You can most likely exit and reenter getting a new 60 day exemption. But this is so new, don't think there will be any experience to rely on. You might be a trailblazer!
