UPDATE FOR FUTURE READERS:

It appears you need a flat total amount of ฿500k in your bank account when you apply, the duration of which it has to be there varies by embassy. Thank you everyone for your swift assistance🙏🏻

Hey all, I have a bit of confusion around the ฿500k bank statement. I looked on the official website as well as other websites, and have called the consular department as well (they were confused too).

I will be using a sponsorship letter. They earn ฿490k every month. I’m not sure if there has to be just a flat sum of ฿500k sitting in an account with an image of that provided, or if over the course of 3 months there has been ฿500k in the account (different sites and people say different things).

Before I apply I’d like to know to save the cost of a rejected application.

Thanks all

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeking clarity on the requirement of having ฿500,000 in a bank account for a Thai visa application shared confusion about whether the amount needs to be a flat total or accumulated over a period. Several commenters emphasized that it's crucial to have this amount readily available in the applicant's account to avoid a rejected application, with some affirming the need to show proof with three to six months of bank statements. They also discussed sponsorship letters, providing necessary related documentation, and potential pitfalls in the application process.

Be prepared to be rejected, and loose your 10.000 Baht fee.

The 500.000 Baht has to be readily avaiable for you at your bancaccount, for the instance that you have ie. a accident, where you can pay the hospital costs from your 500.000, with no delay.

The sponsorship is meant for spouses and children, dependant of the primerly applicant.

okay thank you Henrik 👍🏻

The 500K sponsorship letter is unlikely to work. They want to see the funds on your accoubt. Rather go to a professional agency like

or dtvth - they might maybe be able to help with proof of funds

You have to have the 500k in your account and show proof it’s there with bank statement

Give it a go if your sponsor makes 490k baht a month loosing 10k being denied isn’t a big deal

how do you work that out? What has person A's wealth got to do with B's wealth?

🤦‍♂️

Anonymous participant 675 the figurative “you” is to whom he refers, young padawan.

Anonymous participant 675 what don’t you understand about being a sponsor
Anonymous ******************
@Bob *********
what don't you?

You're assumption is the sponsor is also paying the fee, and not OP who clearly doesn't have a lot of funds hence the sponsor therefor why would you assume they can afford to lose the free.

Hence the reason they posted 🤦‍♂️
Bob **********
she said her sponsor make 490,000 baht a month

my dad makes that money but I don’t ask for anything from him.

I work remotely and cover all of my own expenses, I’m definitely not in his earning bracket 😂.

The sponsorship letter doesn’t mean a literal full time sponsor, it signifies that if I got in an accident someone could help me with medical fees etc. as an insurance.

He’s just the only one able to provide that sort of statement

I’d borrow 500k and deposit it in your bank

If you want to use a sponsor make sure you have the letter signed by them, ID for that person, that they are closely related and they can clearly show financial evidence ie bank balance of at least that amount available. Ideally at least twice in the last 6 months.

But with all advice in here, will depend on the consulate and application

yeah that’s normally the part that confuses me between consulates. Thanks David

I transferred the money into my account the same day I applied through the London embassy and it wasn’t an issue. I think it’s best to have the money sat there for at least 3 months however as many people have reported having to send several months worth of statements and there seems to be a tightening up of rules at the moment.

cheers Lee, I may just have to wait longer than expected

@Lee ******
if your first hand experience is that you transferred it the same day you applied why would you then go against that and say it's best to have it sat there for 3months? You've clearly just plucked that number from thin air and is not helpful.

Your own actions contradict themselves!

For the record I did the same and has no issue.

Anonymous participant 675 because a lot of people have reported that the embassy they applied at has wanted to see the money in the account for 3 months prior to application.

@Lee ******
they have largely misunderstood the requirement. It’s to have 500k at time of application. Adding 3 months of statements. But those don’t require the 500k balance. Verify with the embassy you are using.

No sponsor. 500.000 bath in bankaccount for 3 months. No need for thai bank

Need 500,000 baht in your account for a period of 3-6 months shown with statements in a personal account in your name and available to you for living expenses

no you don’t.

@Werner ***********
rubbish! I transferred mine in, then waited the next day to get a statement and used that.

@Werner ***********
not necessarily, it depends on the embassy.

So is that a Thai person sponsoring you? I don't think just anyone can sponsor people. It might be easier just to borrow the money

my old man who works and lives in Th, I don’t think it matters who it is as long as the letter is legitimate

@Orson ***********
your father might be acceptable, particularly as he's in Thailand. I think it definitely does matter, anyone can write a letter but family is less likely to abandon you if there's a call on the money
