Setting up to renew O visa etc. Its harder to renew then just start all over it seems. Seems impossible to proof income when your own Embassy is worthless. Deposit over 65000 baht each month but it doesnt matter. All those politicians we get disgusted with, well they are everywhere. Im going back to being a visitor only. Three month's then gone! They hate farangs, then so be it. Costa Ric, Combodia, Phillipines, Uraguay, Panama, Belize...see you soon.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the difficulties faced by an expat in renewing their O visa in Thailand, particularly the challenge of proving a steady income without support from their embassy. Frustration is expressed over the strict requirements, including the necessity of showing monthly deposits rather than embassy-issued income affidavits. The author contemplates leaving Thailand for other countries, citing dissatisfaction with the immigration process. The comments reveal various perspectives on the visa renewal process, suggesting alternatives like using bank statements to demonstrate income, while others encourage the author not to leave.

It's a lot easier for an American to stay in Thailand than it is for a Thai to stay in America. 🤦‍♂️

With this attitude you will also never be happy in any of those countries you mentioned .

You are a foreigner and not a political opposition to those countries. Leave the politics in your country, leave the attitude of being over-critical in your country and then it will be pretty easy to accept other countries and eventually live there.

This is only my opinion . 🙏😊🙏

Thailand will never be the same without you.

Anyone complaining about the difficulties in obtaining the income proof, via the 12 monthly transfers from abroad, has probably forgotten why his/her embassy discontinued issuing income affidavits in the first place.

The reasons were plain and open.

Immigration considered it DOWNRIGHT worthless a proof,

to just lay your right hand on the Holy Bible and utter “I swear to God that I make 95,000.- THB per month”

Whilst other country’s embassies demanded original and official documentation of your income, the “hand-on-the-bible” proof seemed so very laughable in comparison. You could just dream up a number, and your embassy would confirm and legalize it

So to whom would you lay the blame upon? Obviously the Mighty Lord is a victim of a scam in this matter and innocent. It's your embassy you have to blame. They could still be issuing income affidavits if the didn't accept your swearing on your grandmother's ankle hair as a proof

Amen!

can I ask you how you prove it then? I was just going to start having my direct deposit transferred into my Thai bank account. Would that be proof enough? I want to take out the

thank you

if your question is referring to the income method, you prove it at the time of the next extension with a statement from the bank. That statement would show two things. One is a list of your 12 deposits during the year and a statement that the deposits were foreign transfers. Depending on how the IO feels that day, they may ask to see proof that you had the ฿ 800K from the previous year.

Embassy not needed. I do the income method and it was easy

Come on peeps...every country has rules. If you decide to leave your country you must abide by your future home's rules. If you want to retire here there are 2 basic ways...showing income or deposited income in a thai bank. It is true some...most countries are stopping income letters which is a shame. Therefore you can still show income transfers via Transfer Wise. Or just put 400,000 baht for a marriage retirement visa or simply put 800,000 baht in a retirement visa. Both have some rules but they can be managed. Don't expect to walk into thailand and have everything handed to you on a silver platter. You have to exert an honest effort. You should know the rules before you complain. The pluses outweigh the negatives so please relax and enjoy your final years. Be happy...cheers

Yes! Interesting how so many 50+ expats complain bitterly when they encounter a small obstacle and threaten to go live in another country as if their leaving is going to leave the Thais distraught! Sometimes I do wonder how these guys made it through 50+ years of their lives! 😆

You simply transfer 65k from overseas into your Thai bank account. I've done this for several years and never had a problem. I do get confused when people say this is a difficult process. It seems more embassies are refusing to sign the affidavit because realistically, how do they know your statement is genuine? So many good fakes around. A few years ago I bought a fake pink ID card from a forger in KSR. It passed muster easily. A bank statement from a Thai bank and the passbook are the evidence immigration requires. Is it really so difficult?

If embassy don't certify income, then the proof of 65k a month being deposited in your bank for 12 months is the proof you use to get an extension? Can't blame Thailand for your embassy rules.
Graham ******
@Lynnette ******
Not for the first extension, it has to be 800k

I was referring to him complaining the embassy won't verify his income. You get confirmation of it through the bank statements.

So the fact that your embassy doesn't provide a service means that Thailand hates foreigners? Okay bye bye.

that was not his sole complaint. Maybe contribute a constructive comment than be so snarky. Are you a moderator for this group ??

The constructive thing would have been for me to reject this post.

@Brandon ***********
based on what group guidelines would you reject the post ? Are moderators immune from the rules ?

@Ken ******
because it contributes nothing to the group and isn't even a question

where is that against the group guidelines ?

so you don't feel the guidelines are a basis for moderation? If you find a post uninteresting, you can remove ? Hmmm

How do I find a list of moderators if I want a second opinion?

@Dave *********
where do you show a majority of support ?

My response questioning his comments has 11 likes. Yours ?
Dave **********
It's about a knowledgeable moderator telling a poster he was full of it! Was he blunt? You bet however the posters stupid comment invited that. Blaming his Embassy actions on Thailand says it all and deserved a blunt reply .

We can do without that poster bad mounting his Embassy and Thailand but not the knowledgeable moderators on this page and I know that's the opinion of the majority and I bet you do too.

When my Embassy decided not to do the money verification I received sound advice on my options right here on this site. I implemented them and had zero problems with using monthly income. Had the poster come looking for advice he may have received some but he received what he was looking for.
Brandon ************
@Ken ******
You're welcome.

@Ken ******
His ENTIRE complaint was that he can't extend his visa. There are 2 ways to extend, either embassy certified income or 800,000 in the bank. There are no other complaints. If you can't meet the requirements then go home or go elsewhere. How many Thais can just go to the op's country and decide they want to live there? I'm sure the requirements for them are MUCH higher if possible at all.
Steve *******
@Brandon ***********
agree. I’m willing to bet he couldn’t stump up the 800k. The 65k a month is of course an option but I’ve seen enough “but the bank book has to state this or state that or have blue stripes and lime green polka dots and the moon must be waxing” to think 800k is the safest and surest. Hard to question and no special statements in the bank book

If you can’t afford to have 800k then maybe you should consider living elsewhere
Dave **********
@Steve ******
over two decades here and no visa problems and I find it very simple. After my Embassy quit the income affidavits went to 65Km monthly with no problem and then to the 800K and now to the LTR. If you actually have the income this is a easy place to retire.
Brandon ************
@Steve ******
The 65,000 isn't an option because the first 1-year extension you cannot use this method. Only if you start the transfers during the 1-year extension you got with 800,000 then is it possible. But there have also been rumors that some offices are no longer accepting this.
Glenn *****
@Brandon ***********
i just did this. Year 1 800K. Year 2 deposits and of course no embassy. Easy
Steve *******
@Brandon ***********
exactly. The whole “some offices” inconsistency makes 800k safe. Better to err on the side of caution
