TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent post shared experiences of renewing a 1-year Non-O visa in Thailand, indicating that a letter from the embassy is no longer sufficient proof of income. Instead, applicants are now required to submit 12 months of bank statements. This reflects a broader shift in immigration practices, as several commenters noted that their respective embassies have also changed their policies, with some no longer providing income verification letters. The discussion emphasizes the importance of adapting to these changes and being respectful towards immigration officials during the process.

When i went to immigration last month i had to show proof that my monies (in my case pentions) where pentions were paid and they covered 65k per month. This was on top of bank statments

It depends on your Country and their Embassy in Thailand. Australia stopped providing them over two years ago so I have needed to supply bank statements and a certified letter from the bank agreeing the balance AND a photocopy of each page of your bank book for the previous 12 months.

What immigration office/province was this?

You actually went to Canadian Embassy and asked for a gauranteed letter of income? I had an appt at the embassy a few months ago and was kinda of easy on going there because of the situation. I scanned them the 3 or4 papers of my pensions and made payment by credit card and 2 days latter i had the letter in the mail and immigration had no probleme accepting at all...this was at the end of August.

They said new supervisor! Not being the type to stir things up, I just accepted it, went home, and printed last years bank statements. Wife went back on her own and today I have my one year extended visa, so all is good.

I think you made the wise choice--the idea to file appeals, and "stand your ground" ( not even sure what that means--?? argue, become angry and abusive, or just refuse to budge until they have u thrown out or arrested?? then try to return to submit ur forms and see the reception u might get?)

like u shared, u can only roll with what is demanded, over 20 years of living here has shown me, and many others clearly, you RARELY, get too far with taking on the aggressive/assertive role-- oh, yes, you'll hear this guy and that claim to have done so, and "showed them", but most such stories are just pure bs! it makes some feel good to act tough. you made the best choice for your long term interests in working with that office.

You are so so right. I have always dealt with the immigration office with a great deal of respect and curtesy. People there have always reciprocated. Yesterday the officer accompanied me out to my waiting car.(I use a walker ever since my motorcycle accident). He practically carried me out. Be kind, it's just the right way to be. Thanks for sharing your post.

not defensive at all...just disappointed because it has been my method of choice for the last few years.

Agreed... My method of choice as well for 15 years now

What immigration office?

3months changed to 1 year now?

It's always been 12 months when using the income method, but this is the first case of a Canadian letter not being accepted. The embassies of US, UK and Australia no longer verify the letter. It's a strange one
Leslie *********
Yep 12 months for sure
Garrett ***********
Most embassies won't issue letters of income verification anymore. You need to show 12 months bank statement that the money didn't fall below the required amount.

Canada does! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

my Canadian embassy issued me a letter as they have done for the previous 14 years. This is a new directive from a new immigration head hauncho..just passing it on
Tod *********
@Roger *********
that is a total crock o' shite. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ there is no "new directive" and any embassy here that issues the letter is accepted without any other documentation.

You should have said you wanted to file a written appeal

And no this is not a total crock of shit. Fuck you...I am just passing on information about what happened to me.
Tod *********
@Roger *********
and I am telling you

IF you had stood your ground,

IF you had asked to see that rule in writing

AND

IF you'd said you wanted to file a written appeal they would have backed down.

Believe it or not.. Good luck with it, ๐Ÿ™‚

why are you being such a dick. I just told you this is what the officer at Matkaphut told me today. Not a big problem I will submit bank statement tomorrow along with the letter. The letter has been accepted for 15 years in a row, so I too was surprised.

But apparently he got the letter from his embassy and it was rejected by Immigration?
