I'm on first year Non imm O-A expiring 18 August 3 weeks ago officer in Krabi said about stamping me in for second year; No problem! You only need to show insurance and i stamp 1 year more. Today they refused to stamp my second year and said; You need extension and they need to see my money 800000b and all papers and pay 1900b.(officer i knew was not working)Is this right? They took 1 year away from me and now i need to pay again 1900 for extension. Just because i cannot go out and come back to kingdom. Is this ok?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing issues with renewing their Non-Immigrant O-A visa, which is set to expire on August 18. Initially, an immigration officer in Krabi stated that a simple insurance submission would suffice for a one-year extension. However, upon visiting again, the user was informed that they need to show proof of 800,000 Thai Baht in their bank account and pay a fee of 1,900 Baht for an extension, which has caused confusion and frustration. Comments clarify the requirements for an O-A extension, emphasizing the necessity of meeting financial and health insurance criteria, given the current COVID-19 situation impacting travel.

Okay you got some good and some shitty answers.

You do AUTOMATICALLY get a "free second year" and you didn't pay for anything at the thai consulate other than a year-long, multi-entry non-O-A visa.

That visa is good for unlimited entries during it's year validity and every entry gets you stamped in for a whole year. Now when this covid shit storm happened back in March what you should have done was went to the border stamped out and back in to get a new year entry stamp that would have been good until March 2021. You didn't and got stuck when the entry points closed with the entry stamp you have now.

It is not the immigrations offices fault at all that this happened.

SO you have two choices, you either get a year extension (all extensions cost 1900baht) by meeting the proof of funds AND meeting the mandatory health insurance from one of the 13 thai insurance companies, OR you let this stamp run out, go on amnesty and "prepare to depart" on or by Sept 26th.

I mean no disrespect at all, BUT you COULD have at least maximized your time here by bouncing out and back just before the borders closed in March this year. :/

Good Luck, take care, stay safe..

Folks this man has done nothing wrong except be caught in a circumstance he had not part in creating.

If Thai Immigration wanted to - they could create a virtual border crossing stamp and get on with things. But No - being the die-hard immovable bureaucrats they are they can do nothing - actually do nothing except be hardlined

I think i will use combined money i need to go our Embassy at Bangkok and get pension certificate and needed papers. I allready have health insurance starting 19.8 and its from Europe lets see what happens with that. I don't need Elitevisa. Good night.

You will need Thai insurance to renew. Also some offices don't allow combined method. Is neither method enough on its own?

For OA visa they need bank pass book proving you have 800k for last two months plus you need health insurance. At the most they will ask for letter from bank ..thats it. This is Thai Govt rule and if you satisfy this 2 condition they cannot deny one year renewal. One yr fee is 1900 THB. There is no any other type of extension required. There is no Exit required for renewal of OA visa.

However you see, what that kind officer said is not shared by his colleagues. So plan B is still open: Elite Visa. It is a one-of-a-time emregency, you can go back to Non-Imm-O or O/A before the 5 years (can get 6 years, actually) are over. Elite means a "parking fee" of 190 Euros per month - how much rent do you pay making Thailand still an inexpensive location?

In hindsight, what you should have done back in March when land borders were closing, was a quick bounce, to get the stamp in until March 2021. However, you didn't so it appears that without the 800,000 seasoned for two months, you could be in a spot of bother, as you cannot even change from OA to O in country. The gurus here might suggest another strategy, but I can't see what it would be

IF you can get out and back to Thailand before 18 Aug, you will get the stamp for another year but unlikely.. What immigration officer said is the option you have immediately under the current circumstance. they don't steal or cheat.

The answer you got today at Thai Immigration is correct.

And with borders closed a bounce is not possibly.

To obtain a one year extension of your O-A based retirement...

You need to show 800,000 Thai baht in your Thai bank account.

Plus proof of health insurance issued by one of the approved Thai Insurance companies.

As its already August 5th...it seems difficult to meet the financial 800,000 Thai baht in Thai bank requirement...

as it needs to be seasoned two months before you apply for an Extension of Stay for one year.

You will be on amnesty until September 26th.

Following the O-A permission to stay date expiring August 18th.

Possibly
