How can I extend my Non-Imm O visa based on marriage in Thailand?

Hello everyone. Just thought I would post an update on my Non-Imm O visa extension. Yes, it's technically an extension of stay based on the original Non-O visa but everyone knows what I mean.

At any rate, got original Non-O visa based on marriage in May 2023 in Savannakhet when they weren't requiring financial information. It was a one year multiple entry. At the time I was living and working in Phetchaburi but my salary was less than 40,000. I tried extending down there, but they wouldn't accept my salary plus earnings from online teaching. So, I just waited and at the end of one year I got a 60-day extension to visit Thai wife.

In the meantime I had moved to Bangkok and got a teaching job with a salary higher than 40,000 baht. I started that job in March of 2024. Today I applied for my extension in Bangkok with paperwork from my school and other than a few minor hiccups, which we were able to fix without leaving immigration, got my "under consideration " stamp. I will go back on October 15 for my 1-year stamp.

Because I did it based on income of at least 40,000 baht per month, I didn't need to show any bank account information. Only proof of salary from school (3 months) and proof of tax payment. The rest of the stuff were the normal documents for Non-O extension based on marriage to a Thai.

Hope this helps. Really not too much work since I had the necessary documents from my job.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience of extending their Non-Imm O visa based on income from a teaching job in Bangkok. They initially received a Non-O visa based on marriage and had challenges extending it due to salary requirements. With ref to the proof of income. What country are you from ? My understanding is that you needed a stamp from your embassy and that the UK embassy ( for example) had stopped verifying that ? Or this is based on you earning inside Thailand ?

, nationality doesn't matter in this case. The embassy letter is not applied for this when the applicant uses the monthly income method for proof of funds while working legally in Thailand with WP.

well noted thanks.

"I tried extending down there, but they wouldn't accept my salary plus earnings from online teaching.", you tried to show them earnings from illegal work and they would not accept it, not really a big surprise there.

what about that immigration/DOL loosened up on work permits allowing for working in a similar field a few years ago?

Nothing to do with where the earnings come from, it is all to do with where YOU are when you complete the work. Maybe a little research on your part would be advisable, and then you too would know that it was illegal. (Not gonna comment on why I am a mod). But, see you in a few days. :-)

Not illegal work at all. My students and company were from Myanmar. In fact, I even claimed that job on my Thai tax return and paid taxes on it.
Lloyd ********
Certainly was illegal, as YOU were in Thailand and your work permit did not cover that employment. :-)

Quick question: if your non-o ran from may 2023 - may 2024 and you got a 60 day extension for visiting your wife, wouldn't your visa have expired before your extension today?

No, because I had a multiple entry Non-O so I left before May 23, 2024 and got another 90 days. That took me to August and then I got another 60 days which took me to October 2. So, as long as I went before then I was OK.

congrats, yep it works out well using monthly income by employment in the country if you have the correct documents from your employer, tax payment etc.

Chaengwattana went to 21 day under consideration stamps a good while back.

Just show up with your blue/green receipt and your passport on that date. You need to get a queue for Section L-2.

They are pretty fast there (your file will already be there) and they'll ink the extension into your passport.
