Answer summary
The conversation primarily discusses the requirements for checking into hotels in Thailand, specifically the necessity of presenting a passport and the procedures related to the TM30 form. Users share their experiences, noting that while some hotels strictly require a passport for check-in, others accept a Thai driver's license or an ID card, especially if the guest holds a long-term visa. There is a consensus that hotels are obliged to file a TM30 report for foreign guests, but practices vary by location, and some hotels may not enforce this strictly. Recommendations include carrying both the passport and driver's license to avoid issues and understanding that individual immigration offices may have different policies regarding the re-filing of TM30 upon return.

Travelling within Thailand which I do often I always use my license and I have a copy of passport on phone as backup.
I only do a TM30 when travelling OS. I may go to Bangkok 2-3 times per month and it would be a pain to do a TM30 returning from every trip. Technically you should buy I've never had an issues atleast with Chonburi Immigration Office.
When you get back home after been away either goto your local immigration office and up date your TM30,If you have done it before personally in the office you can do it on line after it takes 2 minutes...Keeps things right with immigration...
Except, if you are on a long term visa (non-o married, retirement, etc) and have a pink 'foreigner' ID card then this should be acceptable to any hotel instead of your passport.. and the pink ID card does not state your passport number ๐
No immigration don't bother. Actually the intention of t m30 is to know the latest location of the foreigner in Thailand so that they can be contacted in case of emergency. You go to 10 resort or 10 hotels all will make TM 30 and inform the immigration online that this or that foreigner is in their hotel or resort
If you have to do a new TM30 after you have been out and about and stayed at a hotel. Decides the individual immigration. Not everyone requires it. So ask your immigration.
correct, it is the policy of the individual immigration office as to whether you are required to refile a TM30 on your return to your primary residence. For Jomtien it is not required.
many hotels won't file a TM30 as they simply cant be bothered. You have demand one if you need one in many places to be met with a shitty attitude from the manager, theres loads of them out there.
not true, it depends on the policy of the individual immigration office as to whether you are required to refile a TM30 on your return to your primary residence. In Jomtien they are not required.
I can only speak to my personal experience. Nor would it make any sense for one of the busiest offices to require refiling when the refiling requirement was removed by police regulation back in June 2020.
Anonon79 I often travel with a Thai friend. We have two rooms and I've lost count of the number of times she's checked us both in and I've never had to give them my passport.
