Just apply for the non-oa visa

You can get nearly 2 years out of it and zero need to rush. Just a few more pieces of paper.

Not sure why so many hate on it

Ted Francis agents are not an answer … he is asking for reassurance on a visa advice page …. Not for an agent!

With help from this site I managed to get through the process…. At the time things seem confusing…. This site helps!

Can you not apply to the embassy in Ottawa. I got mine from there and it was not to bad. Obtaining the criminal record within the thai timeline requirements was tricky, but I informed the cities administrator for that as well as paid the expediting fee.

The health certificate was ready as well. Can go to a walk in clinic to order the tests.

you dont need a health certificate or a criminal record check if you apply for the non o over 50 retirement visa in your home country only needed if you apply for the non O-A which isnt typically the visa you want if you are looking at staying long term in thailand

It would help if you could be more specific. To apply for the 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 you show you have either 3 months income of greater than 65k baht per month or a lump sum greater than 800k. Once you get to Thailand make sure wherever you stay files a TM30 for you and get the receipt from them. Take that to the relevant immigration office and request a residence certificate then go to phone shop and get a Thai SIM registered against your passport. Armed with both visit a bank and request they open an account, you might need to try a few branches. Transfer a minimum of 800k baht into your account and once it's been there 2 months apply for a 12 month extension of stay. While you're at immigration for the residence certificate ask them for the list of requirements for the 12 month extension.

not the best plan, there's so much misinformation out there already that AI frequently gets it wrong on immigration matters

Alan Kenney you get the tm30 from your hotel and the certificate of residence from the immigration office. If you explain where in Thailand you will stay, you will get more specific help and advice as each immigration office has slightly different rules.
