What are my visa options in Thailand if I can’t meet the Non-O 40K salary requirement due to Covid-19?

Hi there. I am on a Non-O based on marriage with the 40K salary requirement. However, this year due to all this Covid nonsense I doubt I will meet the 40K requirement to extend and I also don't have the 400K to put in the bank. What are my options regarding a visa if I can't meet the above mentioned?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non-O visa based on marriage, but is concerned about not meeting the 40K salary requirement for visa extension due to Covid-19. Community responses suggest that if the financial requirements cannot be met, options are limited, including applying for a 60-day 'visit Thai family extension' which does not require proof of funds or opting for an amnesty period. The possibility of applying for a Non-O visa from nearby countries is complicated by travel restrictions and consulate closures.

How long does the person needs to be on salary of 40k to qualify? 3 months?
Robert *******
If the salary is made inside Thailand, you make copies of the Work Permit and the last 3 months of tax payments and sso payments from you and the Thai staf used to get the work permit

how about we hold off from recommending ANY thai consulate in a nearby country that used to issue visas before because right now you aren't getting in that country, getting a visa for thailand and getting back IN to thailand.

OR

If we're going to recommend them make SURE you state that "pre-covid' it was like xxx or yyy

@Tod ********
yes absolutely. I meant under normal circumstances

My extension only runs out in November, I'm just asking now so that I can make necessary arrangements if need be.

@Anton ****************
I’d beg, borrow or steal the 400k and then give it back after you get the visa.

That could work, but I'd never expect that from someone else.

November is LIGHT YEARS from where we are now :O I'd say sit tight, see what happens in the next couple of months and go from there..

Cool, I'll check in again in a couple of months. Thanks for the quick responses.

Seeing as you don't meet the financial requirements to get a year long extension (by either the banked or the monthly income method) your ONLY option at this time would be to apply for a 60 day "visit thai family extension" at the immigration office for 1900baht. That extension does NOT require any proof of funds.

OR

if your current extension runs out BEFORE the 31st of July go on amnesty and see what they tell amnesty holders to do when they make an announcement about it..

do u think is possible apply for extension visit Thai family . While am on Amnesty.

Before I was NOn-O M entry 1 year but like my stemp also visa expired during covid .

@Martin ******
I believe there have been conflicting reports and a lot will depend on which immigration office you use. Your best bet is to go to your immigration and ask. At best, you get the extension, at worst nothing changes.

careful getting too excited about thinking you're going to ANY thai consulate in a nearby country and getting a year long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage OR any visa for that matter. Thailand for all practical purposes is closed (or let's say that the entry requirements are strict and the process tedious) AND most of the nearby countries are also closed to entry by foreigners OR you quarantine in them IF you can get in AND the thai consulates are also closed to issuing visas on walk up service.

SO for right now, I'd take the "go get a non-O visa from a thai consulate in another country right off the table as a viable option

Wait and see if and when borders are opened to either Savannakhet Laos or HCMC Saigon Vietnam.

You can apply there for a Non O multiple entry one year visa based on marriage to Thai without proof of funds.

Watch for news...and be careful of entry and reentry requirements for countries involved.

thx for these information🙏🏻

Everyone here who commented, I appreciate you taking the time to help me 🙏

@James *******
Can you really get a year without proof of funds? I have a Thai child and was going to apply but I was sure that it was a 60 day (I think)?

Are you sure you can do one year without proof of funds at suvanaket?
Michael ********
@Austin ********
you can in HCMC. I got mine there. I heard same for Suvanaket.
Austin *********
Thanks everyone for the information!!
@Michael *******
my daughter was not born in wedlock. After the coronavirus situation clears up, I'm going to get married on paper quick, and have to go through the courts, i believe, to have my daughter registered as mine to receive full parental rights. But anyways, if your child was born out of wedlock, do they still give a 1 year visa?
Michael ********
@Austin ********
I believe you get parental rights for your child when you get married.
Michael ********
@Austin ********
you’ll need to be sure you have the parental rights paper. But then yes you’ll get one year and eligible for extension if you get the funds part sorted
James ********
@Austin ********
yes you do get a one year multiple entry Non O as being MARRIED TO THAI.

It requires border run each 90 days as you visa is Multi-entry.

recently posted this:

PRE-COVID 19 there were a few consulates around that would issue a 90 day Non-O visa based on being the father of a half thai child born out of wedlock without you being granted parental rights thru family court.

The two consulates in Lao (Vientiane and Savannakhet) would issue 90 day single entry Non-O's AND one consulate in Malaysia (Penang) would issue a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa with just your name on the birth certificate and proof you had 400K baht in a bank account.

No telling IF/WHEN those consulates open back up whether they'll still have the same issuing policies or not..

At an immigration office inside the country you cannot apply for a 90 day Non-O without parental rights having been granted to you. :( visa based on MARRIAGE to a Thai.

No proof of finances or banked money in a Thai bank required.

HOWEVER...if you are father to a Thai child...and not married to Thai...

You cannot get a 90 day Non-O visa inside the country based on being the father of a half Thai child born out of wed-lock without going thru family court to be granted parental rights.

What visa/entry stamp/extension are you on now

No, only for people applying for the Non Immigrant O visa based on married to a Thai National
Robert *******
If you can not meet the requirements, you do not get the visa or Extension of Stay.

With closed land borders and restrictions in travel there are not much options left if you have to leave Thailand.

At the moment if you are in Thailand you can use the so called amnesty and wait for new instructions before 31 july.
