What options do I have for extending my marriage visa in Thailand without the immediate 400k baht deposit?

My one year marriage extension will be expiring in a few months, so I’ll need to put 400k into my Thai bank account soon for the renewal application. It’s really not a good time, so I’m wondering if there’s any type of extension that would give me more time before needing to deposit the money. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking alternatives to deposit 400,000 baht into a Thai bank account for a marriage extension application, which is due soon. The options discussed include applying for a 60-day extension based on visiting Thai family or citing COVID-19 travel difficulties. Key requirements for applications and documentation needed are also outlined. Additionally, there's a query regarding the continued acceptance of a previous 40k baht overseas deposit for the past year.

Can we still use the 40k baht deposited from overseas for the last 12 months? That is what I used last year and what I plan on doing again this year. I'm assuming that is still okay?

Yes, you can still do that. That has not changed.

They pretty much outlined your options;

you get 60 day covid or a 60 day visit thai family to buy you 2 months more time

OR

you pony up the 400K baht and get the year extension 2 months later. :/ That's about all you got

Just exploring options here...

Is it possible for someone on the OP's marriage visa to switch to one based on work and earning 40k/mo or more? I realize that requires getting a job, WP, docs, etc., and maybe the OP wouldn't even consider it. Just wondering about the option and if it's possible in a general sense.

, it's a PILE 'O paperwork from your employer, your tax records, your salary, your contract, your work permit, proof you paid thai withholding tax etc and you show that for a minimum of 3 months.

A person can get a work permit on a one year extension of stay based on marriage. They can get an extension of stay based marriage if they make 40K THB or more a month.

, yes I know. That's the one I've had since 2014. Was just wondering if it's possible to switch from the OP's type of marriage extension to the one based on monthly income.

Based on
@T**
's reply, it sounds "possible" but an uphill battle. Hope the OP is able to get something sorted. 🤞🏼

I used to do family visa and never had any money in the bank, just a proof of income.

Thanks! 2 months extra time would actually be extremely helpful. I also just want to confirm, I need to apply for the new extension before the current extension expires, with enough time for the application approval process, right?

Be watchful for Immigration closure (Public Holidays) late this month.

you can apply right up to the date your current stamp expires there is no "need to apply early" at all. On a yearly extension based on marriage they GIVE you a 30 day under consideration stamp and it's added to the time you have left on your stamp (because it's actually the first month of your next yearly extension)

Oh man, I thought I had to apply about 1 month early. So now with the 60 day extension I could get about 3 months extra time! That just brought my stress level down considerably. THANKS!

what you don't wanna do though is cut it so close that if you're missing a document or copy that you run onto overstay because you foolishly waited until the last day to apply for your yearly extension. Give yourself a cushion of a few days to a week just in case they ask for something you don't have

You have two options:

1. Apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family.

1. Your passport and a copy of:

- Your data ("picture") page

- Your Non-O visa

- Your entry stamp

- Your departure card

2. Your wifePHYSICALLY next to you, and

- The wife ID card and a copy of her ID card

- The housebook, and a copy of the first page

4. Marriage certificate (either the rose border certificate, OR a translated copy from your home country).

5. The application form

6. 2x passport pictures

7. 1,900 THB for the processing fee.

* * *

2. Apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. The last day the government is selling this is July 29, 2021 (for now).

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and ant to use their special forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

Thanks for your response. So what you’re saying is I could get a 60 day extension of stay before my visa extension expires. So I could then apply for a new one year marriage extension before the 60 day extension expires (and deposit 400k THB into my account 2 months prior to applying)?
