What are my options for obtaining a Non O Visa after being denied in Thailand?

UK citizen and passport holder, retired and living full time in Thailand.

O-A Visa and extensions since 2014. I tried to upgrade my health insurance coverage from 1 million to 3 million Baht, but was refused. Therefore I do not meet the health insurance requirements for a Non O-A extension. (I have International health insurance elsewhere).

Therefore when I returned from the UK from a holiday in December, I cancelled my Non O-A extension and insisted on a 45 day visa exempt, which was granted at Suvarnabhumi after considerable discussion. My plan was to apply for a Non O Visa in Thailand.

Today at Phetchaburi Immigration my application for a Non O was refused, because they insisted that I need to show that the 800,000 Baht came from outside Thailand. My 800,000 Baht has been sitting dormant in my Fixed Account since 2014 and I would have extreme difficulty showing the original source of the funds.

Therefore what should I do?

A) Phetchaburi Immigration suggested I leave Thailand and get a Non O in Laos. Is this the best option of nearby countries?

B) Transfer the 800,000 Baht to the UK and immediately transfer it back to my Thai Bank, showing evidence that the funds came from overseas.

C) Provide evidence of historical regular monthly income from the UK to Thailand via Wise. I guess they would require a 12 month statement? Would I require then to continue with monthly statements for a year after the Non O was granted? I want to return to the 800,000 Baht method as soon as possible.

D) Use an agent.

Any suggestions or comments gratefully received. I have a 30 day extension of my visa exempt until mid February.

Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen living in Thailand faces challenges in obtaining a Non O Visa after being denied due to insufficient documentation of funds. The individual has several options including applying for the visa in Laos, providing proof of overseas income, or utilizing assets from their home country. Community comments suggest that getting the Non O from a nearby consulate might be the easiest solution, as well as using an agent to navigate the complexities with local immigration offices.

My advice to you would be to get an agent to fix your issues. Somchai's only create laws so they can create envelopes, these people buy their jobs and they want their money back. For a few thousand baht, sit back and watch how miraculously all the "isssues" disappear!

Have you spoken to your bank asking them to show source of funds?

Escalate. It is not policy. Some offices choose to be obstructive. You will win if you hold your ground. I had a letter from Bangkok Head Immigration Office telling Samui to behave. The 800k was good enough for the extension but not renewal? They can not justify that.

I suggest you read that.

Just telling it how it is. For a non-O (50+) in country, the dosh has to come from overseas

not true. 65k monthly remittances have to show FTT. Not 800k.

Go on! Tell me the Immigration website which spells out the conditions have got it wrong too! 🤣

Henm Extension is renewal. Same thing. The OP is applying for a new visa. He'd have been better advised to get the non-O for 90 days in another country.

actually not my view at all. I stand by what I said. It is possible in country. Some pedant at his local office should be overcome.

. If you have minimum £83,000 (US$100,000) assets in the UK and have been declined insurance, you can use the value of your assets to cover the insurance component. This is a concession brought in by the MfA to allow for retirees unable to get insurance.

You can pay your Health cover Monthly in the U.K or Thailand offices... MHF Wrlife

If you've been declined for OA insurance, you can use your home country assets (house, savings etc) as proof of funds to cover the health insurance. This means you do not have to transfer 800k into a Thai bank account

Some offices require the funds to be seen to have come from overseas. Some don’t. If you get a non O in Laos then the requirement to get the year extension just needs it to be in an account for two months.

Chiang Mai for one, does NOT require Proof of Foreign Origin of Funds.

Easiest is probably just go and get the non-O from a nearby consulate.

If you want to go to Laos beware that Vientiane requires an appointment but Savannakhet accepts walk-ins.

And yes it's a normal requirement to have to show the funds came from overseas for the initial non-O inside Thailand, but not usually required for the 1 year extension.
