Good evening everyone. Its been a while but I wonder if I can ask your advice again. Stupidly I let my bank balance slip before the renewal date of my 1 year marriage visa. So I guess I'm going to have to go to a consulate and start again. Anyone have any recent experience with ho chi min? The website site says there are no appointments until 1st Nov which is too late for me. Do they stick by these or can I walk In? Also wanted to ask how the evisa works? It's all new to me. If I apply online to UK embassy for an evisa non o. Multi. Cam I print it. Fly to Vietnam or where ever. Then just fly home and present the paper? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Thank you all kindly. Neil

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on renewing their marriage visa after their bank balance dropped below the required amount. They mention possible options such as visiting the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) but encounter appointment issues. Suggestions include visiting Savannakhet in Laos to obtain a Non-O visa without proof of funds, or applying for a 60-day 'visit Thai family' extension to allow time to increase their bank balance. The user is also curious about the eVisa process and the possibility of applying for a work permit on an extension.

Thanks

. The visit thai family extension sounds like a great idea I didn't know I could apply for that at the end of my current full non-o marriage. Do you know If I'm able to apply for a work permit on that extension? Or convert to a non-b? I don't often work in Thailand but have a few times recently and it's been so easy getting the work permit on the current stamp and not sure where my next job is going to be based. But murphies law it will be Thailand again if I get the wrong visa.

Off Topic. If you want to apply for a work permit, you need to be on a visa/extension that allows you to have one, such as Non-O marriage. I'm not sure 60 days visiting Thai family extension is one of them since it's a short-term extension similar to a tourism extension. You need to check with the labor office. (we cannot go further with this matter)

ok thanks will check. I'm on on Non-O marriage right now and would be extending that. The nature of my work I might need a short work permit some time soon. Normally the agents my work use would just convert me to a non B if there was any issues. But thanks for raising it il look into more.

On an extension based on marriage you can indeed work legally and get a work permit from the company that hires you. NO need to go on a Non-B if you're married to a thai no matter what the company who employs you says.

I think it would be prudent to figure out how to rectify this problem (without exiting/re-entering and starting all over from zero) and get your year extension so you can stay here THEN worry about a work permit or working ๐Ÿ˜› BUT that's just me ๐Ÿ˜‰

As I said you can apply for the 60 day visit thai family extension ONCE per entry (so as long as since you last entered thailand you haven't gotten that extension you can get one) That should buy you the two months you need to season the funds.

thanks once again. You are a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate your help. Your right I do need to get it sorted ASAP. Was a stupid over sight. For some reason I had it in my head it was 400k for 3 months or 800k on the day. Stupid of me I know. Thanks for your info and help. Il be able to figure something out now

@Neil *********
the reason seasoning is the 400K baht funds need to be in your account for 2 months before you apply for your extension (not from the date your current stamp runs out .

There is no 3 month seasoning on anything to do with visa/extension based on marriage or raising thai children here..

Good luck, let us know how it works out for you 60 day extension wise

my bad 2 months. Had to check my bank book there quickly! but I still cocked it up! Will let you know.

HCMC requires an appointment so if their first opening is Nov that's when you can to, they'll turn you away at the gate.

You can go to Savannakhet Lao and get either a 90 day single entry Non-O visa or a year long multi-entry one without proof of funds and that consulate is walk up service

Another solution might be for you to get the 60 day "visit thai family" extension for 1900baht at the immigration office (if you haven't gotten it yet since you've entered thailand) to buy you the time to season the funds the 2 months you need you can apply for your extension.
