What are the current requirements for applying for a Muay Thai DTV visa in Hanoi or Bali?

Hey guys,

I’m planning to go to Hanoi, Vietnam or Bali, Indonesia in two weeks to apply for a Muay Thai DTV. Today, I got in touch with a Muay Thai gym in Chiang Mai, and they told me that for the DTV application, not only do you need a bank balance of at least 500,000 THB, but it also has to have been maintained for at least three months.

This caught me off guard because just a month ago, they said holding it for one month was enough. So I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone who has successfully applied for the DTV in Hanoi or Bali.

Should I go ahead and try applying in Hanoi or Bali, or should I wait another two months until my bank balance meets the three-month requirement?

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the requirements for applying for a Muay Thai DTV visa while considering applications in Hanoi, Vietnam, or Bali, Indonesia. The user learned that a 500,000 THB bank balance must be maintained for at least three months, which conflicted with previous information about a one-month requirement. Comments from the community suggest that documentation of regular income may also be necessary and advise against applying prematurely to avoid rejection due to changing requirements.

How can muay thai gym say what the different embassies require, contact the different embassies yourself and ask . It's not the muay gym that approve the visa.

Stick to 3 months and not a day under. Immigration will turn you down. Happened to me with the marriage visa application. Was off by one day on the 2 months requirement, had to leave (went to Bali. It's overrated asf) and just returned yesterday visa exempt stamp. Will apply for marriage visa again in like a week. They said I should be Gucci.

If you are applying as unemployed then it might raise some worries and likely get denied,if you state that u got a job and u don't mind gambling 350us$ then go ahead. it's a hit or miss but surely if u got your payslip going into that account regularly and you can show that off, it's gonna be easier for you.

I’ve been living in Thailand for some time now, and I support myself through passive income from property rentals and investments in stocks and funds. Although I don’t have a traditional job, I receive steady monthly income from these sources, which comfortably covers all my living expenses here.

I'm a little confused about how to explain to the visa officer that I have a sufficient and stable income to support my life in Thailand.

Even tho I applied with muay thai, I still got asked to show a very extensive documentation about my work, despite having way over 500k they asked me to show my salary going there for over 3 consecutive months. This was in taipei a few months ago but lately there are more and more posts of people getting the same in vietnam and indonesia.

Yes this is something they been requiring due to companies that help get DTV they been putting money in a deposit account for you to qualify and then take it back out when its done.

Some people have been asked to show proof of the funds when they re-enter thailand instead of extending it

Yeah, that’s definitely a thing — and actually pretty common.

NOT 🚫 at all common. Sorry but I would like to hear on the forum from anyone that has had that happen on entry into Thailand.

did i say it was common?? Im just sharing it has been asked of 2 i know.

Here is an example people have been living in thailand for 10 years doing visa exempt runs the whole time. That ended over night --

I have only been in thailand since may and I already learned in my own experience that things change here constantly with out warning too. ( its in your best interest to learn that as well )

People on DTV Were also getting bank accounts but that changed too and existing bank accounts have been frozen or locked out things change.

You just sound like someone who dont like change or worried about the information offered. You ask for people here to offer experiance on this you assume everyone traveling to thailand on DTV is in here -- such arrogance.

You are assuming im saying its common place. I didnt say it was.

I said im only saying it cause I know 2 it has happened to out of several DTV holders i know.

I didnt choose a DTV due to my foresight of changes and situation that could arrise and complications with the requirements -- so I am on an ED visa by personal choice, sure long run i pay 1900 baht every three months to extend along with 90 day report.

They already changed the savings requirement in deposit account from 1 to 3 months to apply ( ive seen reports from Bangkok bank to ensure 6 months with the money in there due to embassy requirements in some countries )

so im glad I chose the ed visa and not have to worry about if I have 13k USD in account in time to keep visa active ( I move money around frequently and avid investor, so I may not have that balance in a saving account for the time required )

You dont think some IO *MAY* ask to show proof upon re-entry ??? To assume they won't is pure ignorance and lack of foresight

@Walt *****
yes I know 2 personally 1 didn't have the funds and was denied entry and visa canceled

@Andrew *******
frankly that is the FIRST TIME that the person's were asked to show PROOF of the 500,000 Thai baht in a bank account on entry into Thailand...

And if not able to show it..

their visa was cancelled AND not allowed to enter Thailand.

Sorry but I'm very suspicious of the truth about this happening.

Thai Embassy's and Consulates are aware of the fraud bank account balances used by Agents and are watching for it.

ok sure just because you havent seen it personally doesnt mean it hasnt happend. I cant tell you how many times people like you say the same thing.

Go to all ends to rebuke what I say, until I seen it happen to two of my friends I didnt think they did.

It doesnt happen until an IO asks you at re-entry.

I was also rebuked on passing information that the IDP is only accepted by thailand for first 90 day stay. Cant tell you how many refuted that info then others started to confirm it. So I dont really care what you think.

Its not an issue until they start asking personally I would keep the funds in your account the whole time you have the DTV just to be safe.

Choice is on the traveler granted they dont ask everyone. I know many on a DTV and only 2 were asked. So it has happened and there is nothing in thai law that only requires verification on extension.

Fact is immigration at the airport has the power to deny your permission to enter at whim fofr cause as they see fit and there is nothing you can do about it so I would have proof of visa compliance on hand just incase.

Don’t even risk it

Even if people were ok before things can change the next day. Just wait so you don’t waste time and money from a possible rejection

Actually I think showing your monthly revenue/income on your bank statements of 3-6 months is also as important as having 500k.

Me and my friends got approval with 500k held less than 1 months ( we all applied in Vietnam )

My Thai KBank account has been active for over nine years, with monthly deposits of at least 100,000 to 200,000 THB to cover daily expenses. Due to KBank’s limit on daily transfers for foreigners—which can’t exceed 50,000 THB—I’ve been keeping most of my funds spread across other bank accounts, none of which held over 500,000 THB. It wasn’t until a month ago, after consulting with the Muay Thai gym, that I started consolidating my money into one account.

I believe my transaction history should be solid, given the consistent and frequent activity. What I’m unsure about now is whether the Thai embassies in Hanoi or Bali strictly require the 500,000 THB to have been held in the account for three months straight. That’s the part I’m trying to clarify.

Depends on the embassy. I did it in Cambodia and they required 3 months.
