I have a question about the DTV visa in Thailand. I want to apply for it. I've been in Thailand in February. I left to do a border run in Malaysia and then I came back and I have been training Muay Thai in Chiang Mai for the past month. I just left again on July 4th to meet my parents in Sicily and then I'm supposed to fly back the 19th. I talked to my coach. He told me to go to Bali to fill out for the DTV visa. My question is about the 500k baht. I have a Vanguard account that's had over 11,000 usd in it within the past three months and now I just went ahead and completed it and put the 15,000 USD which is the 500,000 baht. Will that be acceptable or do they need to see that 500k bot in my account for more than three months? My coach’s is filling out the proper paperwork for my dtv visa through Muay Thai. I also have 55k USD in my 401k on my vanguard but I’m not sure if that matters. I know have 17580 usd in my vanguard account now. This is not a 401k. Also where is the best place and fastest to apply for the dtv visa. I fly out the 19th and do not have a flight out yet so figuring out my next move to apply for this

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa application requires proof of funds, specifically 500,000 baht (around $15,000 USD) held in a regular checking account for at least three months. It seems that investment accounts are typically not acceptable, and having the necessary funds in a checking account is crucial. It's recommended to consult with your Muay Thai gym to find the best Thai embassy or consulate for processing your DTV visa, as they may have insights on where students have successfully applied. Always check the specific requirements stated on the embassy's website.

$15,000USD is 487,000 baht, not enough. You'll need 16,000ish

You need to have active cash account from a regular Bank. Especially if apply from countries in Asia.

There are some exemption cases succeeded with an investment account but that’s not the majority and usually depends on detailed documentation, forms of that capital, overall portfolio and importantly which embassy reviews your case.

It’s better to relocate the 500k fund into an active bank account and after DTV approves you may move it back to investment account.

However 3 month time length of the 500k is mostly asked by embassy in Asia. So far Taiwan and Indonesia are fine as long as the total ending is there, but you need to supplier others docs to justify.

Good luck!

Ask your Muay Thai training gym which is the best Thai Embassy or Consulate where their students are obtaining the DTV visa. Follow their advice.

Look at the Thai Embassy or Consulate website where you will apply for their bank account balance requirements.

Also read the posts about getting the DTV visa in the Thai Embassy or Consulate your gym recommended... For its bank account balance requirements.

IF you can show the Thai Embassy or Consulate that you have two accounts which combined are greater than the amount required... Show both of the accounts...be sure that the Schwab account is accessible and not invested in stocks etc...but is in their cash money market account immediately accessible.

A cover letter showing the two accounts with a simple statement for the Thai Embassy or Consulate to understand.

Can't be an investment account. Must be a checking account. Must be in there for at least 3 months.

Vanguard Brokerage Account. I have a money market in there that I can access the funds anytime and pull them out. I have a brokerage account and also a 401 account. ChatGPT says brokerage accounts will work but maybe I’m wrong. I don’t trust it. Does it have to be in the account for 3 months to qualify

Don't trust chatgpt. Most of the embassies tend to ask for the money sitting in a saving account only. It's true we heard stories of folks who got it showing their crypto or investments account but those are rare. You can still try if you don't mind gamble 350us$

chat GPT is wrong. Needs to be in an actual bank account.

DTV extensions have been rejected using a wise account so a vanguard account stands no chance unfortunately
