Morning all.

I have got to go to KL (from Hua Hin) to get a temporary visa in march. I intend to get a Thai wife visa later this year but the documents aren’t ready by march (my current visa expires then).

Best way would be NON-O (dependent). I have got a son who is Thai, but do not live with him now. That’s why a one year visa is not possible if apply in Thailand because you have to prove that you live with your kid.

What do you guys think about the 60 day NON O (dependent) and application done in KL. Possible? I have got copies of birth certificate and passport of my son in hands now. Anything else required?

The second way would be 60 day tourist visa, if the NON O doesn’t work.

Thanks a lot.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about options for obtaining a temporary NON-O (dependent) visa while in Kuala Lumpur, as their Thai wife visa documentation won't be ready by March when their current visa expires. They mention having a Thai son but not living with him, which complicates the application for a long-term visa in Thailand. Community members clarify that a 60-day NON-O dependent visa is not available from KL, but alternatives include applying for a 90-day single entry NON-O visa at specific locations like Savannakhet or Penang, or obtaining a tourist visa as a backup.

These are your options for a Non-O visa based on being the father of a half thai child

Vientiane Lao (asks to see 200K baht in a bank account) only issues 90 day single entry

Savannakhet Lao (no proof of funds) only issues 90 day single entry

Kuala Lumpur (proof of 400K baht) only issues 90 day single entry

Penang (no proof of funds) 90 day single entry,

Penang (proof of 400K baht) year long multi entry.

Can you keep it open for some time? I just asked Tod Daniels one last question....

Worst case (as if you can't show proof of funds to get the year visa from Penang) you could get a 90 day single entry Non-O from say Savannakhet Lao, come in get stamped in for 90 days and then apply for a 60 day visit family extension for 1900baht which would give you 5 months totall

people have been doing those single entry Non-O's from Savannakhet for a 90 day stamp and then a 60 day extension for many many years now.

Proof of funds is no issue at all.

5 months would be great anyway, you think that’s possible in Malaysia as well?

How is Penang or KL different?

There is no 60 day Non-O dependent visa from KL :/

You COULD easily get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on being the father of a thai child (needing only the birth certificate and the house book listing of the child) from the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao, OR Penang Malaysia without proof of funds.

You probably could even get a year long, multi-entry Non-O from Penang by showing the same documents (birth certificate with your name on it and the child's house book listing) AND showing 400K baht or the equivalent in a bank account in your name.

There is no requirement to show you were married OR are now divorced to get that visa at either of the consulates I mentioned.

Wow. That sounds really nice. They wouldn’t also check the history in my passport and wonder why I don’t extend in Thailand if the criteria would fit?

Is Penang easier or different from KL?

What visa, if any, are you now on?
@Tod ********
Robert Lagas...can he obtain a 60 days family visit extension at his local Thai Immigration office vs having to leave Thailand?

And can he get a one year Non O from Savannakhet support of Thai child?

i'm not friendly but, i just try to advice the Thai visa rules as they are:

a visa based on marriage, you can not get as you are not married

a Extension of Stay based on having a Thai Son from Immigration you can not get as the boy does not live with you and you are by court order not the guardian of the child.

You can get, if you ex wife is willing to co-operate the 60 day Extension of Stay based on visiting your family at your local Immigration Office if you did not use this Extension of Stay on this visa or extensions afterwards already.

Or leave the country get a Tourist Visa, come back get 60 days of stay and try to get you ex-wife to work with you to get this 60 days Extension of Stay if more time needed or get the normal 30 days of stay and hope your documents are in order to get married in that time frame.

what is the delay you speak of two months...?? Getting married again to Thai? Lacking documents ??

Sorry, James, i have no idea. is he married to a Thai National or waiting for documents to get married?

I presently have a one year NON O (dependent) due to my son. Cannot extend that anymore (conditions don’t apply anymore) and have to leave the country for sure. That’s immigration words.

okay, info deleted

Can you keep it a little friendly?

I don’t mix up anything.

The term „temporary“ is supposed to mean short time visa, 60 or 90 days, not a 1 year visa.

I posted very clearly that I need to leave in march. Current visa is NON O (dependent) due to my son. But I cannot extend that anymore as I explained clearly in the post as well.

BTW: The thing I suggested comes from an immigration senior officer, even he is not sure whether they will grant me a NON-O in KL or I have to go with the tourist visa. So there is no nonsense or confusion at all.

One more thing: Of course I checked the website of the Thai embassy in KL firstly but it’s not clear there as well. I also wrote them an email, they don’t have officers to reply but just automatically refer to their website with incomplete information...
