TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about visa options for a father who has a Thai son with his ex-girlfriend. The user has his name on the birth certificate but is uncertain about the correct visa to apply for after his current visa expires. Comments suggest that he can apply for a 60-day extension to visit his son, or pursue a Non-O visa based on parenthood, requiring specific documentation from local authorities. Options include obtaining a single entry 90-day visa that can be extended, or possibly a Non-O multiple entry visa if certain conditions are met.

If you have fund and authorized (signed) copy of your ex's ID, you MAY be able to get Non-O (Thai Child) multiple entry in Penang. Legal parenthood is not required, but you need your name in birth certificate. With this visa you need to border-run every 90 days, but you can stay up to 15months + 60days extension visiting Thai family if you want.

Wouldn't the ex need to "certify" the ID by signing their name across it?

With what you have ie birth cert you can get a single entry 90 day visa. You can then extend that for 2 months inside Thailand to get a maximum of 5 months. If you want longer you have to go through a court process to legitimise paternity. If you do that you can extend for a year provided you meet the financial requirements. You can then also extend annually thereafter

you need to be have the legal parenthood and guardian of the child while he lives with you. You get these documents from the Amphur or from Family Court, depends on the age and the amphur.

With only your name on the birth certificate you can apply for the 60 day Extension of Stay to visit your son and then apply for a new Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on having a Thai son at a Thai Consulate.
