TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they can obtain a Non-O visa in Penang based on their status as a father listed on their son's birth certificate, despite not being married to the child's mother. Comments suggest that it is possible to apply for a Single Entry Non-O visa with specific documentation, including proof of paternity through the birth certificate, mother's ID, a housebook, and a bank statement showing at least 400,000 THB. Other commenters share experiences regarding re-entering Thailand and suggest alternatives if the requirements cannot be met.

Whatever visa you get, you can avoid a lot of problems entering Thailand from anywhere other than Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok. Go South and travel domestic flight back up! KL to Phuket, Krabi or Hat Yai. These places actually make it a pleasure to arrive in Thailand.
If you can't meet those credentials then I'd get tourist visas until you can. I've been in the same boat as you. I've also had the same warning at Suvarnabhumi, however and then entered again on visa exempt with no issues a few weeks later....
You won't get those either. Me and two of my friends got denied a 60 day tourist visa in Cambodia two months ago. All our paperwork was in order and we got no reason to why they denied us a visa.
You can apply for Single Entry Non O visa for 90 days. Need house book, mother's ID, birth certificate, bank book (with more than 400 000 THB),copies passport pages, passport pictures.
I copied and past this list out of a visa forum, from a posting that said he applied successful for this visa less than a month ago in Penang Malaysia. Thanks for telling me and poster that 6 years ago, or in Norway it is different. I know for sure the original poster does not have a Time Machine to go back in time and the question was Penang not Norway.
1 copy of bank statement showing a balance in the amount of not less than 49,000 NOK (200,000 BATH ) in past 6 months. ( required for multiple entry only)
. I think you have to be the "legalised guardian" of a child for a 1 year extention of stay in Thailand but not for a non imm O visa obtained at a Consulate/Embassy.
I was under the impression that you also had to be the legalised guardian of child as having your name on a child birth certificate in Thailand does not actually give you any rights or responsibilities to that child. I spent a fortune going through all this earlier last year
not need the money but house book, mother's ID, birth certificate, copies passport pages, passport pictures i\ve done that for 6 years with no bankbook, never been asked, but if they changed the rules i dont know
Robert Lagas. You only need the birth certificate and proof of funds for a non imm o based on only having a Thai child to obtain that visa at most Consultates around the world. No need for the Mothers ID or housebook.
Mohammad Robeth Romadhon. Just to be clear it's 400k thai bhat. Not sure if your post is genuine but that is the amount of money you need to show at many Consulates to obtain the Non Imm O visa based on dependency.
