What are my options for extending my tourist visa in Thailand, and are there restrictions on the total time I can spend in the country?

Hello all

I'm a UK citizen currently in Bangkok on a 45 days tourist visa. I want to know my options for extending and how to do it.

I'm planning on leaving Thailand for a couple of months before my current visa runs out so no problems if I'm required to leave.

Also what are the rules with visas is there a maximum amount of time that you can spend in Thailand per year etc?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen in Bangkok on a 45-day tourist visa inquires about options for extending their visa and learns that they can potentially apply for a tourist visa at the Thai consulate in Phnom Penh after leaving Thailand. There are no formal restrictions on how long one can stay in Thailand throughout the year, as it largely depends on immigration officer discretion. To extend the current visa, one can visit the IT Square Laksi Plaza immigration office for a 30-day extension for 1,900 baht.

now as far as your other question can you BUY a tourist visa from the thai consulate in Phnom Penh you can. Go to the website, read the requirements, meet the requirements, apply, wait the number of days they take to process visas, go back and pick up your passport with the visa in it. Enter thailand and get stamped in for 60 days (which you can extend by 30 more for 1900baht)

This shows the requirements at the thai consulate in Phnom Penh to get a tourist visa

this is the timeframe for processing, the hours for applying and picking up your passport

There is no maximum amount of time you can spend in Thailand written in any law. It's completely at the discretion of the immigration officer you're standing in front of when you enter the country. Use common sense and think about at what point you're abusing the system and trying to live in the country on an incorrect status, as that's what they will be thinking too.

And just so you're clear IF you showed up here without having bought a tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country before you arrived, you aren't here on a tourist visa, you're not here on ANY visa, you got in on a free entry stamp called a "visa exempt entry"

This is a general list of what you may need to get the extension granted

OK so I did just turn up & they gave me 45 days. Can I apply for a tourist visa whilst in Phnom Penh? With the documents in the picture above where can I find the TM forms & where is the immigration office in BKK?

@Aaron ******
how about you read the first comment I made that has the link TO the immigration office and says it by name (IT Square Laksi Plaza)

That's where you go to get the 30 day extension for 1900baht,

They have copy shops on either side of that immigration office that can make the copies, do the photo etc
