Hi all , Im from the uk, am I right in saying i can come to thailand with out a visa for 30 days , then i can get a extension for another 30 days, and can do 2 boarder runs , and can do a fly out fly in which gives me another 30 days, which can be extended for another 30 days giving a total of possibly 180 days ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about their ability to stay in Thailand for a total of 180 days as a UK citizen using a combination of visa-free entry, extensions, and border runs. Community members discussed the validity of this plan, suggesting alternatives like obtaining a 60-day visa in advance for easier management of their stay. They also highlighted the risk of being questioned by immigration officials during repeated entries and suggested considering a multiple entry tourist visa for a longer stay with less hassle.

Hi
Jarek ************
Apply for multi entry visa which gives you total of 6 months.
Terary **********
I have a few years here doing various different visas. A determined person can stay in Thailand a long time without a proper visa.

Amazing how many people add an 'a' to border!

beware 180days just fits the definition of tax resident for worldwide income starting jan next year

There is a much better and cheaper way to do it.

Go to

and apply for a 60 day, touristvisa, you get in 7-10 days at the most.

Then you don’t have to use holiday time to travel to a immigration office, waitingtime, and uncertainty if they will grant you the extension.

@Henrik ****
it can take weeks to get this visa. Depends on the Embassy.
Henrik *****
Most embassies with the e-visa option, recommend applying for 60 days tourist visa 2-4 weeks before departure ( check with the embassy in your country)

and the visa will arrive on email 1-2 weeks before departure.

The evisa is most often processed by departuredate ( NOT date of applying )

If you think you are going to live in Thailand long time without a long term visa you are stuffed, immigration is wise to it

I want to come for 5 months,

@Terry ******
So why not get a Visa which will make staying a total of 5 months much easier and less risk of being denied re-entry which you will need to do?

ive had a little look at the forms to fill out ! , i would need help filling them out, so I’m opting for a just go there attitude, with a free month on arrival , then a 30 day extension, then fly out/in with another 30 days plus another 30 day extension, then all I would need is one border run, to me the 5 month stay I’m after, and Get to see two other countries as well, is seems the easiest option

he is coming for 180 days… not exactly ‘living in Thailand’.
Graham ******
If wou want to stay that long in Thailand why not get a multiple entry Tourist Visa which, if used correctly, can get you almost 9 months in Thailand with a final extension?
David ********
@Graham *****
Every 60 days you must do a border bounce with a 6mth visa
Graham ******
@David *******
or after 90 days if you take the 30 day extensions
David ********
@Graham *****
Is that for the 60 day visa or 6 mth visa
Graham ******
@David *******
The tourist visa (single or multiple entry) gets a 60 day entry stamp. For the multi-entry it is valid for 6 months to get you a 60 day entry for each entry up to the last day of validity.
Tony **********
I'd start of with a 60 day visa applied online then extend by 30 before a border bounce

No, you did your math wrong. Original entry (30+30), 2 border bounce + extension (30+30+30+30) plus air border bounce (30+30) = 240 days.

But I would say your odds of getting in on the final air border bounce are low since they'll pull you aside at the airport and ask you why you're trying to live in Thailand without a proper visa. If you just want 180 days then do the entry and extension, plus 2 land border bounces plus extension, then go home.

If you want to do 2 land border bounces plus an air border bounce, do the air one first, then use an agency to do the the 2 land border bounces to ensure you don't have any issues.
