Good morning,

Looking at coming to stay in Thailand for 6 months consecutive. I’m a UK passport holder, I notice it’s 90 days on a stay but is it possible to extend a further 90 days without leaving? Is this done online? I remember years ago I did it in Bangkok and had to travel to some office to extend..

Standard tourist visa. Haven’t been in Thailand since 2019.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the inability to extend a standard tourist visa for longer than the initial 60 days plus a 30-day extension in Thailand. For UK passport holders wishing to stay for 6 months, options such as obtaining a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa before arriving in Thailand, or performing border runs to neighboring countries, are recommended. Comments highlight the limitations of the standard tourist visa and suggest alternatives like the Non-O visa for longer stays.

The boarder bounce is what I wanted to avoid tbh but if I have to do it then I’ll have to do it.. just wanted to stay six months no hassle.

If I get the standard 90 day tourist visa can I just leave for a day and come back or do I need to leave for a certain length.

yes sadly and with no logical reason the 6 month visa requires extensions and border bounces. I mean logically a 6 month visa should at the absolute most require a 90 day report like the non-o visas but yeah for some really fugged up reason this is not the case

It's a multi-entry Tourist Visa valid for 6 months and a tourist entry stamp is just 60 days. A Non-O Visa only gets a 90 day entry stamp.

yeah I know but it sucks you only get stamped in for 60 days at a time. They should just make it a 6 months tourist visa that you don't have to leave the country for. There's no logical reason to get this visa

You can get a multi-entry Tourist Visa from your home country so that you don't have to apply in a neighbouring country and wait for up to 3 days. Only one border bounce to get up to 6 months in Thailand.

if you only want to make one trip out of Thailand, expect to spend at least 2 days at a Thai embassy in a neighboring country as you'd need to apply for another tourist visa and none of the nearby embassies offer same day service. Some are drop off one day pick up the next business day, and some are 2-3 business days later.

If you just do a border bounce where you leave and immediately return, you'll only receive visa exempt which is 30 days and can do 30 day extension, meaning you'd have to do this twice to hit 6 months.

the standard tourist visa gives you 60 days which can be extended by 30 days at your local immigration office. Then you need to leave the country. If you want another standard tourist visa you have to visit a Thai embassy in a nearby country which takes time. Or you can just leave, stamp into another country and return which will give you 30 days visa exempt, this can also be extended for 30 days

Are you over 50 and therefore able to apply for the Non-OA Visa which is the only one that gives you the time you need without border bounces?

tourist visa valid for 2 months ( 60 days) 1 month extension 30 days

LEAVE, get a new tourist visa in Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, etc and another 30 day extension

if one does that 60 day and 30 day extension is there a requirement on how long you need to leave Thailand before you can apply for a new 60 day tourist visa?

thanks bro! Do you know how many times you can do this in a calendar year? Also if I may is that something regularly done. Or is it difficult to get. I’m asking because I want to sign a 6 month rental contract and hate to lose the money if I can’t return.

until they say NO MORE<

Getting a visa does NOT mean immigration will allow you in> If the officer sees consecutive tourist visas in a short time, he might refuse you or warn you NO MORE>

Tourist do not sign 6 month leases>

if ur staying 6 months get a Multiple entry tourist visa online

thanks I’ll stick with 3 months appreciate the knowledgeable information

If you want to stay six months without being hassled by immigration get a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa BEFORE you leave the UK. This will give you six months with a border bounce and a couple of in-country extensions

@Steve *******
you can get almost 9 months out of a METV

Yes I realise that, but the OP was specific in his request for six months. The nine months would require two border bounces. I was keeping it simple

You haven't given us any information so we cannot answer you question.

What visa will you be traveling to Thailand on? None of the visas you could travel with offer 90 day extensions.

You cannot do anything extension related online.
