I consulted an agent who reviewed my documents for Hanoi but couldn’t find any issues. So they recommended that I should try soft power. Spent 10 days in Laos and applied by myself and got interviewed. The officer did ask some questions about my ed visa and asked why do I think I was rejected in Hanoi, and I said I don’t know 🤷. Anyway glad it’s done.
Rejected in Hanoi
Submitted: 25th March
Pending approval: 31st March
Rejected: 2nd April
I applied as a freelancer with one major client. Submitted all the documents as recommended. With monthly income highlighted on bank statements, company registration extract, contract and invoices, 2 million baht in the bank from last 3 months.
Probably because I have 2 ed visa (but previous posts got approved)? But I cancelled it properly before I left Thailand. Anyway totally lost and have no idea how to improve my chance.
As Songkran is approaching, I don't really want to travel to another country and get stuck. Shall I try it again in HCMC (although experiences from other posts seem horrible), or shall I wait after Songkran and go to Laos or Manila?
Any thoughts?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user experienced a visa rejection while applying for a freelance visa in Hanoi after submitting the required documents. Following this, they successfully obtained a visa in Vientiane, Laos, after considering alternative locations for reapplication. They expressed concerns about their previous education visa affecting their current application and debated whether to try reapplying after Songkran or travel to Laos or Manila. Community feedback suggested that Hanoi's visa processes have tightened, advising the user to consider options in other countries for potentially better outcomes.
You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.
Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.
I am in the same exact situation. I applied via Muay Thai soft power (6 months course). I also had an education visa prior but cancelled it properly. I am a US citizen. I had the sufficient amount in the bank. I applied on March 27 and was rejected April 3 without any explanations.
If you have ED visa right now, of course you will be reject. If you close your ED normal, everything should be ok. What bank account you shows them? If you show Thai bank account with income on Thai account - big mistake. In HCM don't try. Go to Laos or Philippines.
so cannot show any type of income on the Thai Bank account right linking to my freelance work, if I am getting the 500k THB from my dad, does that work? I am currenly on an EDplus and will be applying for a DTV
there have been prior reports of other people who did this and got approved, even one German IIRC who showed a Thai tax return as proof of income from remote working while on an Ed visa and got his DTV on that. I think it's because Hanoi seems to be tightening up.
