Should I resubmit my visa application in Hanoi or apply in HCMC after a rejection?

Jun 17, 2025
Edit: People who have real documents but want to try by themselves. Please read this. I went to embassy and learnt 500k should be in account for 3 months or should be stable. Not ok with ending balance 500k even though it is your real money.

I have just got rejected mail in Hanoi. I believe I attached every documents. I have sent the clarification email and am waiting for the reply.

1. Myanmar Nationality

2. Australia based company

3. Submitted company registration, employment contract, remote permission, Company profile, resume, portfolio link, cover letter indicating that I am not working for Thailand company, payslips 3 months, Wise transfer email, Company website.

4. Vietnam Entry Stamp, Hotel booking

5. Bank statement 6 months with Ending balance 500k

My question is should I resubmit in Hanoi or better apply in HCMC?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster, a Myanmar national, has recently faced rejection of their visa application in Hanoi despite submitting what they believed were complete documents for remote work. They inquire whether to resubmit in Hanoi or apply in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) instead. The conversation reveals issues such as the importance of document clarity, potential scrutiny due to nationality, and previous experiences of other expats with similar applications. Many commenters suggest ensuring all documents explicitly state permission for remote work from Thailand and that they be officially certified, given that embassies may scrutinize applications from certain nationalities more closely.

How long have you had 500K in your bank account? 3 months? Or just about 1 month?

I am working with an agency and applying to Hanoi. They had me submit 6 months of invoices totaling min 3kusd per month, 6 months of my bank account showing the same invoices being deposited, they had me move money from my savings account (which is labeled as a brokerage account at my bank) to my checking account. I also submitted a summary of all of my accounts with balances and last 4 of my account numbers so they could see that the money has been in my accounts for 6 months. They told me Vietnam wants 6 months of docs, if I had applied in Laos it would be 3.

6 months is not a requirement in Hanoi.

Anonymous participant 179 many things are not required but it seems from people's experiences here, more is better. Also I have no reason to believe my agency would ask me to give them double the documents just for fun when they told me clearly if I went to Laos I would only need to submit 3 months.

I think a lot of it has to do with nationality, unfortunately. How long have you been with the AU company?

Sadly, I think it has little to do with the 500k not being seasoned for 3 months, but more because of your nationality.

Dear Anonymous,

The most common cause of rejection I see mentioned is incorrect information with your passport.

The system has problems with dates (birthdate and passport validity dates) and records them incorrectly. You need to check and correct the dates.

Also, the system has a lot of trouble with names. It wants family name and first name. It has trouble with middle names. It has trouble with hyphenated names.

The passport data page names must match what you are entering.

Many people from Myanmar have 4 names, so look really carefully at this.

Did the system reject you based on these issues?

Were you asked for more information regarding your bank account or your employment?

Good luck with your next application.

I believe the 500k needs to be in the accounts for at least 3 months and I also am curious if they are looking at salary amounts. They may be rejecting on monthly salary amounts. I've noticed people that are around the $2,500 a month mark have been getting rejected. I have no idea if it's related but it would be interesting to see how many rejections are in that range for monthly income.

There’s no requirement for the 500,000 THB to be seasoned for any specific length of time in Hanoi, and they don’t have a minimum salary requirement either.

Anonymous participant 179 with recent data and rejections i still feel the financials play a major role at the adjudication stage at Hanoi. Maybe they started to be more strict and thus the recent rejections. With this specific case i think… is the story behind the financials . Its not the Myanmar Passport per se but the fact the business is australian and maybe they could not clearly stablish that relationship. I can guarantee you if the company was located in Myanmar and there was continous movement on the bank statement things would be different . YOU HAVE TO PROOF UNDER REASONABLE DOUBT THAT YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF IN THAILAND FOR 5 LONG YEARS. If your application can not do this THERE ARE NOT SECOND SHOTS you could be rejected which i think is what happened here 🙏

Anonymous participant 179 I think You may have misunderstood my post. I wasn't restating the actual requirements I was speculating as to why many people were finding themselves getting rejected and not knowing why. I was questioning whether there were some underlying requirements that aren't official.

Anonymous participant 321 certain nationalities come under a lot more scrutiny in Hanoi. Hence far more rejections there with Burmese, Chinese etc. I’ve noticed it’s a common pattern there.

Thanks for updating your post with all relevant information.

You can apply again from another embassy/consulate, but it makes sense to identify why your first application was rejected. I would not apply again at the very embassy/consulate that rejected your first application, if I were you. Unless you have clearly identified the problem, with 100% certainty, and solve it in your second application.

1. Does the remote work permission from your employer specifically mentions that you are allowed to work from Thailand? Some embassies seem to want to see this specifically (not just "allowed to work from anywhere" but "allowed to work from Thailand").

2. Are all your employment documents signed and stamped?

Some suggestions for Myanmar passport holders (some were asked by Hanoi before):

- Have all letters/company registration documents etc. signed by your company / boss officially certified. If the company is Australian based, it should probably be done by a notary.

- Have also the passport copy of the supervisor who signs your documents signed and certified by a notary

- Include a selfie of your supervisor holding his/her passport

—> reason: They seem to be extra suspicious with the validity of documents submitted by Myanmar nationals, so get everything certified.

- As mentioned by others, the letter from your company should explicitly say that you are ‘allowed to work remotely from Thailand’

There is one proviso on that statement. If the rejecting embassy puts a note on your immigration file then other embassies will not deal with you. I have only heard of one case from an agent. Someone rejected in Europe did not tell the agent who applied for them locally. The European Embassy had put a note on the person's file. The agent could have checked before 2nd application if the person had been transparent. Very rare case though.

The guess was false documentation but nobody certain. The only way to get the note removed was by the Embassy who put it there.

If you're unsure about what went wrong the first time, it's very risky to apply again without fixing the issue.

1. Document Issues.

You submitted the requested documents, but they were not sufficient for approval.

- Remote work documentation may have been incomplete or unclear.

(If your documents meet the basic criteria, they may contact you for further clarification. If not, they often reject the application outright.)

2. Application Form Errors.

Some details in your application did not match your supporting documents for example, middle name discrepancies or incorrect passport numbers.

If you need help, feel free to message me. I offer paid assistance and can guarantee visa approval.

Thank you 👍🏼

Anonymous participant 476 you should have 500k liquid at the end of the last statement cycle. Dont listen to the gurus here tell you otherwise. Dont make stories stay simple . You either can support yourself or someone must sponsor you to satisfy the financial requirement. If you go the gym classes route it would make sense to have a sponsor . If you are a business owner YOU ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE A PROFITABLE BUSINESS that can sponsor your application. THEY WANT THE APPLICANT TO HAVE FINANCIALS TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES FOR 5 LONG YEARS. The abuse that happened there before is currently irrelevant they want continous flow of money if you give me more details i could help you fix the problem. From what i can read from your story they had doubts about your financials and thus the rejection 🙏

Anonymous participant for the bank statements they want to see the pay slips for the last 6 months. If you have a business you should always separate the financials from your own. In my case i have a business bank account that pays me every month. This i do for taxes in the us as i can do a lot more deductions and this is the structure my accountant recomends. HIGHLIGHT THE PAYMENTS MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM to find what they are looking for. Your pay slips should match the deposits coming from your business account to your personal account. If you are lost with all this info. Than take the soft route find a school and get a sponsor. Business owners have a hard time with the financials . Once you are approved thats it they could not care less about you. In the soft option i anticipate ALOT MORE REQUIREMENTS TO “ CONTINUE IN STATUS” as most people just stop attending school and keep the visa and can potencially stay in thailand for 5 years OUT OF STATUS from an immigration standpoint. There is not nice way to get this visa you either will suffer on the approval phase or mark my words they will make sure you are “ IN STATUS” spending the money at schools in the future. Hope this helps 🙏

Anonymous participant I was approved in Hanoi in early May. Two weeks before applying, I topped up my account with 150,000 THB to bring the balance to 500,000 THB.

From what I’ve seen, certain nationalities do seem to face more scrutiny in Hanoi. A lot of the rejections appear to be from applicants with Burmese, Chinese Etc.
