Should I ask for the entry stamp in my old or new passport when returning to Thailand with a NON-O visa?

Hello everyone, I'm coming back to Thailand next month with 2 valid French passports. The first is almost full, this is why I made a new one. I have a 1 year extension based on non OA "retirement" visa.

I plan to renew my yearly extension of stay in March and get it on the new passport. When I enter Thailand should I ask for the entry stamp to be on the old or the new passport ? Would option 2 make my life easier and would officers agree to do so ?

Thanks.... I hope I was clear... πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Thailand with two valid French passports, present both passports to the immigration officer upon arrival. Although your old passport will contain your valid visa, you must receive your entry stamp in the new passport. This will ease the renewal of your annual extension later. Additionally, ensure you have the necessary health insurance documentation related to your retirement (NON-O) visa, as it may be requested.

When you get a new passport your old one is immediately void. You have to use your new one. Stamps/visas from the old one can remain valid but you have to use your new passport.

When you return to Thailand you will get an entry stamp in to your new passport based on what your old passport allowed. Once you are in Thailand then you’d need to get your extension stamp transferred to your new passport at your local immigration office.

not... Both my passport are valid and have the same validity date. One is just full.

It is possible to hold two passports that are both valid (for reasons of travel to various countries that don’t permit travel between the two) but in general a new passport supersedes the old one. In the old days they used to cut off the corners of the old one or something similar to indicate that it was no longer valid.

I know that and appreciate your answer but it doesn't tell me if I can wait and renew my extension on the new passport... πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

it's obvious that you don't want to hear what both Stuart and I are saying..

You want to hear that it's okay to carry both passports AND have the Thai Immigration Officer stamp you in on your Old passport.

Good Luck πŸ€

You will get an entry stamp in your new passport, but you will need to transfer the extension stamp to your new passport before you can apply for another extension. Stamp transfers are free of charge.

When you arrive into Thailand, show BOTH the Old and New Passport to the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you.

Are you in the first year of the OA visa in your passport?

IF so, it's a multi-entry Visa and no reentry permit is needed.

However do you have proof of your OA REQUIRED health insurance policy to show the Thai Immigration Officers if asked?

thanks for the answer, however as mentioned in my question I'm now on a yearly extension... My 3rd actually. I have a multiple re-entry as well of course.

simply show the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you your old and new passport. You will be stamped in for the remaining time/ending date of your current extension of stay stamp in your passport.

The Thai Immigration Officer will stamp the New passport.

Take Both passports to your local Thai Immigration office to transfer the current OA based extension of stay into your New passport

OK thanks... So you say stamp the new passport. Then I don't want to transfer the current extension but instead get the new extension (March) on the new passport. Keep in mind that both passport are valid. Can I do that ?

take both passports to your local Thai Immigration office and ask them. AND you will have to file a new TM30 address registration with your local Thai Immigration office within 24 hours of your arrival into Thailand and arriving at your home address.u
