Hello Everyone

Need advice,

I have renewed my old passport and will be receiving it 6 weeks from now.

I also plan to do visa-run at Cambodia and extend it using my old passport.

I will be applying for a Non-O (dependent - wife not thai legally working in Thailand)

and my problem is;

Scenario 1

- should i extend my visa-exempt (Cambodia) from old passport to new passport?

(letter from my wife's company will then use my new passport number)

Scenario 2

- extend my visa-exempt (from Cambodia) using old passport (then pick up my new passport) and i can just go to Nong Khai Border then present both old and new passport so they will stamp exit on my new passport? and from Laos Consulate i will use my new passport to apply for Non-O (dependent)

(should my letter reflect the old passport number or new passport number?)

i am very confuse hope someone could enlighten me regarding which is the best choice or maybe you have any suggestions guys.

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on how to manage their visa situation while transitioning from an old passport to a new one. They are considering two scenarios: either extending their visa-exempt status using their old passport or using their new passport after receiving it. They need clarification on whether to reflect the old or new passport number in the visa application letter, and how to ensure proper stamping at the border when exiting Thailand. Commenters provide suggestions on showing both passports to immigration and obtaining a letter from the consulate for stamp transfer.

, in theory, IF you're on an extension when you get your new passport you are supposed to go transfer the stamps to the new one.

You probably would be able to show both, have the passport control people move your stamps and stamp you out on the new one at the Nong Khai border.
@Amor****
, they're on a on a visa exempt with a 30 day extension, can they just show both passports at Nong Khai when they exit the country?

Garrett Greenwald they'd probably transfer the stamps at the airport. All I'm doing is telling you what the procedure is.

Once you get your new passport you will also get a letter from your consulate addressed to thai immigrations asking that they transfer your stamps to the new passport.

You take them both (and the letter) to the immigration office and they move the entry stamp to the new passport. Then you don't need the old one anymore.

as of now i only have visa-exempt and also extended it for 30 days. can i just go exit at Nong Khai border and show both old and new passport?

keep in mind some passports cannot be used for international travel once you apply for a new one :/

if you're getting a new UK passport you definitely can't border bounce to get a 30 day stamp while you're waiting for the new one to come in

If you are going to go to a thai consulate to get a 90 day Non-O visa in your new passport you need the letter to state the new passport number.
