If my OA visa expires on 15th Sept and if i go to renew/extend on 20th Sept would it be acceptable? I mean, is there any grace period after expiry of OA visa within which it can be renwed/extended without penalty? I am expecting one week delay in funding the minimum requisite balance for two months.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no grace period for renewing or extending an OA visa in Thailand after its expiry. If you attempt to renew on the day after expiry, a daily overstay fine of 500 THB will apply, which starts from the expiration date. It's crucial to note that the overstay begins immediately upon expiration of your 'admitted to' stamp, not the visa sticker itself. Therefore, it is advised to renew the visa before it expires to avoid penalties.

Thank you everyone for your prompt response., coincidentally I bumped into immigration officer while walking to Tesco and he clarified that there is no grace period and it would be considered as overstay with penalty of THB 500 per day! And he mentioned grace period is applicable only for 90 days reporting! Too bad and stringent that no one or two week grace period is allowed after expiry, especially considering OA visa extend requires two months balance maint and insurance requirement, these people need to be little considerate! Anyways, thanks!

all extensions based on marriage or retirement require the banked money in the account for 2 months before you apply for the extension. What you need is planning NOT consideration ;)

Good luck with it (y)

I heard today, you can leave and re-enter the country, which then automatically extends your OA for another year. Obviously would have to do quarantine in Phuket but if you’re double jabbed then no issue and would potentially sort your problem? Not an expert, happy to be corrected.

I had planned same in March 2020 to exit and enter to automatically extend for one year but soon after all travel had been stranded so had to go through normal extention route. I guess it would be more risky to travel and return back and especially while other nearby country borders still closed

you might have options, such as if you have Thai wife or children.

Don't have Thai wife or children, not even have Thai GF! So have to go by the rules

Looks like your only option is to find the money you need ASAP and definitely before the 15th of this month.

Dontcha just hate it when a person needs a real serious issue answered, it's answered with info and an important question within moments, and they are never heard from again.

the overstay begins with the expiry of the date you have been stamped in, not with the expiry of the visa sticker! Be warned! There is no grace period

Too bad the maximum overstay fine meant you could stay indefinitely. Sure worth 20,000 Baht.

NO! After 90 days, if a person leaves Thailand they would be blacklisted for a year. If you're overstay for a year, then the blacklist is 3 years. IF you're captured less then one year overstay, the blacklist is 5 years, and if you're captured on more then one year overstay, it's a 10 year blacklist ;O

Assuming you're still on the original Non-OA visa:

LOOK in your passport at your "admitted to" stamp and not at the visa sticker. Your admitted to stamp is the length of time that lets you stay in Thailand, and not the visa sticker itself. Very seldom does the "valid to" date and the "admitted to" date are the same.

> I mean, is there any grace period after expiry of OA visa within which it can be renwed/extended without penalty?

No. The fine for being on overstay is 500 THB a day, with a maximum of 20K THB.
