TLDR : Answer Summary
When extending a Non OA retirement visa in Thailand, the timeframe for applying depends on the immigration office. Some offices, like those in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Buri Ram, allow applications up to 45 days before the visa expires, while most other offices permit applications only within the last 30 days. It's recommended to check directly with the local office for specific guidelines.

as long as you meet the financial requirements on the date you apply and wait until you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp you're going to be okay using Krabi
Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Buri Ram (and possibly others) allow 45 days prior. Most others are 30 days. You may find a rogue one that only allows lesser days but I’ve not seen postings about that for ages.
I don't recall that immigration offices have less than 30days as an extension application window.
Some immigration offices wouldn't accept tourism applications until you have 1 week or 10days left such as Jomtien office. But those still allow 30days for Non-immigrant type extension.
, If you apply for an extension for the same reason as your current stamp, it usually is added to your current stamp. If you apply for an extension changing the reason, the new extension would start on the day of application basically.
