Hi there, iam on OA multi entry retirement visa which I obtained in Australia. I saw on a post earlier that after the 12 months visa runs out I can get another 90 days extension, is that right or I misunderstood? Also like to know if there is any way I can renew my visa here in Thailand instead of going back to Australia?

Thanks for your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-OA visa granted to expatriates for retirement allows for stays of up to 365 days, with renewal options available through border runs or extensions. Unlike the Non-O visa, there is no 90-day extension for Non-OA holders. After the first year, one can apply for an extension at the local immigration office, provided financial requirements are met. Additional queries about re-entering Thailand and the visa validity period indicate that the 365 days resets upon re-entry after leaving.

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. There is one more question. If I leave Thailand for about 3 months and re enter, do I lose that 90 days out of my 365 days visa, or my 365 days start counting from the day I return?

, For example: IF

Non-OA, VALID UNITL: 07 JUL 2023

Enter on 06 APR 2023 -> Admitted to stay until: 04 APR 2024

Enter on 06 JUL 2023 (for the last time) -> Admitted to stay until: 04 JUL 2024

If you want to travel outside Thailand for three months once enter for the last time, get re-entry permit. You will be stamped until 04 JUL 2024 every time after.

if it is a multiple entry visa, a re-entry permit isn’t needed, or is it?

it's only a multi-entry visa until the VISA itself expires,

meaning IF you take that "free" second year entry just before the visa sticker expires AND you want to exit/re-enter on that stamp you need to buy a re-entry permit or that stamp cancels when you stamp out

ok, thank you...good to know. I thought I will still be on multi

, please read well or please let me know if I wrote something wrong or not understandable since English is not my primary language.

You need re-entry permit IF you want to travel AFTER original visa gets expired and you still have valid entry stamp when you want to come back to Thailand.

When you enter on or before the "valid until" date on your Non-OA visa sticker, you will be stamped for new 365 days every time. When you want to enter Thailand between the "valid until" date on your Non-OA visa sticker and your latest entry stamp date, you can enter again on the latest stamp. For that, you need to get a re-entry permit BEFORE you leave Thailand.

Yep. The OA visa is valid for Entry into Thailand for ONE Year from its date of issue. It's multi-entry during the first year of it being issued.

You misunderstood a bit. The one you referred to is a Non-O visa, not a Non-OA visa which you have (note with/without A). No 90 days entry/extension for Non-OA holders.

Non-OA gives you 365 days or the same as your insurance validity with your entry stamp every time you enter Thailand on a VALID non-OA visa. So if you enter Thailand (by border-bouncing to a neighbouring country) just before the valid until date on your Non-OA visa sticker with proof of insurance covers the next 1 year, you will be stamped for a new 1 year again (some people call this the second year). This means you can stay in Thailand for almost two years in total with one Non-OA visa.

At the end of your second year, you can apply for a 1-year extension based on being over 50 starting from Non-OA entry at the local immigration office by meeting financial requirements (have funds in a Thai Bank account) and mandatory insurance from an authorised Thai company.

Or go back to your home country after two years to get a new Non-OA.

that’s an excellent explanation! I didn’t know the 3rd year extension at immigration part. 🙌
