TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30 reporting requirement remains in effect for residents in Thailand, but its enforcement varies by local immigration office. While some offices may not require a new TM30 for domestic travel as long as you return to your primary residence, others may insist on it regardless of travel type. Recent experiences suggest that maintaining an up-to-date TM30 is important for processes like the 90-day reporting, particularly if your records do not match their database. It's advisable to directly consult with your local immigration office for their specific rules and consider using the online TM30 system to ensure compliance.

So I just did my 90 days Chaengwattana immigration on Wednesday. I usually do it online but this time I was rejected, couldn't understand why so I went to immigration and I was told that my form didn't match their computer records, I had gone out of Bangkok at Christmas and stayed at a hotel and the hotel had registered me there. I had to update the TM 30 online while at Chaengwattana before they would give me 90 days.

that's interesting. CW use to tell everyone that they only needed to update TM30 when returning from traveling out of country.

rules changed according to the immigration officer and it’s up to you to find out. Just not always easy

yeah. I get that. But when one IO at CW says one thing and a different IO at CW says something else, it's impossible to know what your gonna get when you report. Diversity in local practices between different offices is one thing, diversity in practice between IOs in the same office is impossible

If you’re doing a 90day report online you will need an up to date tm30. I was rejected for one night in a hotel in Chiangmai (I live in Chiangmai) 3 years ago. The local immigration office said the new stricter rules came from Bangkok. Renewing TM 30 was easy though- just showed my old one & passport, no landlord needed.

Odd you say that as I asked this question at Chiang Mai TM30 office ~ 10 days ago. I asked 'if I go to another province for a few days or weeks, stay in a hotel and then return to my normal residence where this renewed TM30 is for, do I have to report my return to Chiang Mai and do another TM30?' . The answer was a firm 'No, only if you leave Thailand and re-enter you need to report your return to this address or a new address.

That's a good question that has no answer OTHER than what ever your specific immigration office requires.

- Some offices say no need to file a new TM30 for domestic travel as long as you go back to your primary residence (the address you used for your extension)

- Some offices say file a new TM30 only when you come back from traveling out of the country

- Some offices say file a new TM30 for both domestic and international travel

I would see if you can't register to use the online TM30 program (either the main website OR one of the mobile apps) and that way you can file when ever you come back to your primary residence no matter whether you travel in or out of the country.

Sorry there's not a cut and dried answer, but with over 80 immigration offices in the country it's what ever your particular office wants you to do in regards to the TM30 😕

Yes, the law from 1979 is still in place but differenty enforced for people residing long term at one address. Check with your local Immigation Office on how lenient they are with enforcement.
