TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30 reporting requirement for foreigners is still technically in effect, as property owners must report foreign guests' arrivals to immigration within 24 hours. However, its enforcement varies by immigration office; some places in Bangkok may require it, especially for visa extensions or 90-day reporting, while others may overlook it. Instead of stressing about obtaining a TM30, expats can opt for hotels that file the report or go through local police stations. It's important to stay informed on individual requirements based on one’s specific circumstances in Thailand.

I'm sure you do in theory. Although in practice, if you don't use immigration, then you may be right because you wouldn't ever be checked.

However, you do need to do 12 monthly reports, which is when a TM30 could be checked. Unless you travel out of country at least once a year (even just a border run).

no i checked on this it’s “one year reporting” just like the 90 day reporting of other visas. The clock resets every time I leave the country.

Only needed when you sleep/stay in a new residence

It’s still required , especially if going for visa extensions , never had any problems with not filing one , but take no chances with Thai immigration , I get mine done at local police station , never a problem/hassle . I’m only farang in village so they know I’m around , . I’d rather be safe than get problems at immigration on my exit , so kinda your call but definitely worth doing to avoid problems .

There was that period where you'd have to report every movement it seemed. Go to the bathroom and take a pee, come back and have to file a TM 30.

you mean I don't now ? Whew, what a relief.

its back to that in Bangkok because the TM30 is tied into 90 day report

If u stay longer and renew visa or do 90days report, immigration ask you to show, then u need it

Some small hotel, hostel ignore to do it, you can report their property name to immigration that they don't do it

No, don't do that. Leave hotels alone. A TM30 is only needed if your immigration office requires it. In that case just go to a hotel that files one for one night.
Steve *******
Try calling it address report instead and they should know what it is. It's illegal for hotels to have foreigners staying with them without reporting it to immigration.

At Bangkok office, you only need it when you check in you 90 day again after your reentering and when you renew your yearly extension.

If you've no intention to visit an immigration office it's no problem. However, if you're looking for an extension you could well be asked. Bangkok immigration certainly does, but I don't know about others

they can see it in the computer. So first the person has to care then they have to look and not find it. I had a PITA officer last time and I had been out of country and back without realising my apartment had to file. New one. I had also stayed in a hotel and when trying to sort it out immigration was able to look up the hotel and see a tm30 they had filed for me a year ago. I wound up getting fined like 1500 baht even though I am in no way responsible for filing it. She gave me a receipt so I don't THINK it went in her pocket, but hard to say.

I just do mine online. Takes about two minutes
Paul *******
It's not really a thing anymore but depends on your local immigration office and whether they want to see one. If not, don't bother.

@Paul ******
I did an extension 3 weeks ago at Jomtien Without the tm30 you will get the fine. Yes 💯 hotel should do it but if they don't then you will get the fine.

@Gabriel *******
I am well aware of that, which is what I meant. A TM30 is ONLY needed if your immigration office requires one AND you need to use that office for something.
Paul *******
@Mark *******
Yes I know. Chiang Mai is one of the strictest immigration offices.
Paul *******
@Gabriel *******
No, they have..since mid 2019, most immigration offices have stopped asking for them each time you leave your home and some only request a new one if you've actually moved..

Huge difference to early 2019, when you needed to submit a new one each time you spent a night away from home or you'd be fined.

Paul James a little push back, there’s no enforcement mechanism for tm 30 and there never has been aside from visits to immigration… the need to have one on file depends on the type of service you’re receiving from immigration and it’s always been like that too…of course enforcement of some of this does and always has varied from office to office and even officer to officer…no one ever asked anyone on the street to provide documentation of tm 30 submission
Paul *******
@Gabriel *******
No its not. It depends on your immigration situation and the rules of your immigration office. They significantly eased up on the rules in mid 2019.
Mark ********
@Paul ******
tm30 is being enforced in CM. The immigration Facebook page has regular reports about immigration officers visiting various locations checking that tm30s are being made on all guests and visitors
Gabriel ********
@Paul ******
the rules haven’t changed, you must have a tm30 on file…enforcement was always spotty
Gabriel ********
@Paul ******
it’s absolutely a thing

The property owner is required to report your arrival within 24 hours. Nothing has changed in this regard.
