TLDR : Answer Summary
As of mid-June 2024, there are no official updates regarding the proposed 60-day visa exemption for Thailand, originally expected to take effect in late June or early July. The current visa exemption period remains at 30 days. Some sources suggest a possible update by September, while others advise travelers to secure a tourist visa if they intend to stay longer.

Why all the fuss? If I want to stay up to 60 days, I'll take the TR visa. No problems, no further questions about it.

it is strange for Thailand to announce 60 day visa exempt, but then have no idea when they will implement. It is understandable why people planning their holiday would want to know.

The announcement alone does not constitute legal implementation. All laws only become effective when they are passed into law by the Royal Thai Gazette. And this always appears on Thursday. But because of the few euros or dollars it doesn't really matter. Within a few days I have the online visa And basing my holiday planning on a possible imminent visa arrangement is quite a strong thing

I understand the process because I have lived in Thailand for over a decade but tourists do not, that is why they keep asking. The government and the media should not have used the June 1 date.

Just the Media, never the gouvernment

Yes, I'm Thai. I agree with you.

No one knows for sure, just get a plane ticket and hope for the best. I have heard of people asking for 60 day stamp and getting it. That may be a lot of hogwash too

You may have heard of this happening but 100% this is hogwash. You don’t ask for however long you want to stay for. If you are granted entry to Thailand you are given the number of days your entry scheme allows. That may be 14, 15, 30, 60, 90, 365 days, or longer. You don’t decide what to ask for. Your entry scheme, as in the visa you may or may not hold decides.

The only current 60 day entry stamp is with a Tourist Visa

No update as yet, so at this stage still remains 30 days visa exempt.

There is no update as to when or even if it will happen. Watch this space. You’ll certainly hear about it if it does.
