TLDR : Answer Summary
There are rumors that the new Thai government is exploring the possibility of extending the visa exemption period from 30 days to 90 days. However, no official confirmation has been made, and any changes are unlikely to occur soon. The discussion currently includes potential benefits for tourists from countries such as China, India, and Russia, while skepticism remains regarding actual implementation and the speed of bureaucratic processes in Thailand.

Vietnam just did it. Am sure thailand will follow suit. Especially with this new "business savvy" Govt. That's why the talk. They are sending feelers out to see what the public think. Should do the extension before end of the year, I feel.

Not really needed, just get a 60 day tourist visa, and extend it 30 days.
Not many people have holiday for more than 30 days.

Maybe just temporaly for the next high season and then cut back

If you didn't know its thailand you are talking about nothing happens quick in the land of smiles and when we think the thai authorities use a lot of thought process to make decisions well think again because there is none guaranteed if you wish in one hand and urinate in the other you will get a wet hand first

No, not really even a discussion at the moment, don’t go rushing to book your ticket.

Confirmation?? Ummm - no. But expect many rumours of imminent change over the next 20 years from wishful foreigners. But no actual changes

What is being rumoured is that the 90-day visa waiver which is currently available to citizens of Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Peru will be extended to citizens of Russia, China and India.
The money the high rollers are bringing in would offset any losses by immigration. Don't people realise the Chinese are buying up Bangkok, whilst the western expats are whining about dual pricing in national parks?
Vietnam is a 90 day visa, not a visa exempt. You can already get a 60+30 visa for Thailand. I guess Thailand could make the TR a 90-day day entry, but immigration would lose a lot of money on extensions
ohh that is a shame, if they do not. Vietnam has recently made it very easy for many countries to stay 3 months. It would make sense for Thailand to do similar.
Not as far as I know. It's the high rollers they're trying to encourage to stay longer, and currently it's the Chinese, Russians and Indians who are spending up big in Thailand. Thailand doesn't recognise EU, they work on individual countries, not on a region
Bring it on I say! I had a fabulous Covid. Kind of sorry it ended and they let dirty farangs back in again. It was great to have the place virtually to myself.
Haha! Yes curfews, they were really enforced weren't they? I flew everywhere so I don't know about buses. To go anywhere just had to flash the old "covid pass". Masks were no problem in the busier areas, no need to wear if no-one else around. Very small price to pay for the added bonuses. Bring on Covid 24 I say! 😂
It was fantastic. Best time ever. Half empty aircraft, cheap airfares, cheap and easy car hire and hotels. Great service at restaurants. Beaches almost deserted.
decision will be made ina couple of weeks to max within a month

Talking about and actually doing something are totally different scenarios. The government is interested in trying to attract more people from nearby such as China and India for example, they think this may be a solution.
The problem with the ‘official way’ would be leaving 800k in the bank making 0.25%. And lining up at the bank and immigration every year. When an agent can take care of it all and you can leave the 800k making 5%+ somewhere else. Which is 40k annually. Which more than covers the 16k annual fee. win, win.
although I do it the official way with the 800k in the bank I still think it's a good alternative if you can use the agent it give another alternative should you have a problem with the official way
when people comment like this, do they really actually think? Who received the payments Will? And who is going to ‘crack down’? 😂 Give your head a shake

The only confirmation that matters is if it's published in the royal gazette.
