TLDR : Answer Summary
There have been discussions regarding the possibility of extending the visa-exempt stay from 60 days to 90 days for certain nationalities. However, these talks remain unconfirmed, with skepticism about implementation due to potential financial implications for the Thai government. Many commenters believe that until an official announcement is made, these discussions are speculative. Some express the idea that longer exemption periods could attract more tourists, while others worry about the economic ramifications for visa types already in use.

i don’t see the sense in it either. Some people don’t even make the return trip. Just stay in the other country to safe return fare. Spending their money in that country instead.
says, the longer term "tourists" are the cheap begpackers and the "digital nomads" who spend their days looking for free WiFi in coffee shops and then nursing one cup of coffee for two hours. Lunch is a ham and cheese toastie from 7-11. The real big spenders huh? Thailand certainly doesn't need those! 😆
whoa there I’m a DN and in the a past month spent around 180k tb, I’m unaware of any DN that behaves even remotely like a turtle!! Constant and high earning tends to be the big difference between us!
Unlike the retirement posse coming out at 7pm for two bottles of chiang and a moan about the old days then tucked up by 10:30!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪
So why is it digital nomads hog the coffee shops, and are always looking for border runs. If you're all so wealthy and ready to drop money into Thailand why don't you all have Elite Visas? I'm here on a retirement visa and will not use an agent to get me a bogus visa. I import 100k each month which satisfies the criteria. I don't even go out till 8.00 because most music venues don't even kick in until 9.00, and I'm choosy about where I drink because I won't touch the generic Thai beers. I want the imported stuff, I won't lower my standards. You'll seldom see me eating street food because I'm a restaurant or expat pub diner. The OP suggested a 12-month visa for those who want to spend money. Why doesn't he stump up for a 5 year elite? It costs the equivalent of two cups of coffee a day
because DN they want to change the country whenever they want.Who told you people want to live in Thailand 5 years? If they got bored then move to somewhere else. Why need to stay 5 years and pay 500K -2M?
so great you eat at expensive restaurants who still employ n the main Burmese workers at a lower price than the minimum wage ,,well done you ,,I prefer to give my money straight to the family run street stalls .you have next to nothing to offer the poorer Thai people with your elitist bull
You can give your 60 baht to whomever you wish, and I'll choose where I spend MY money. Why should I lower my standards to keep Cheap Charlies like you happy? 😂
I'm sorry if you're jealous of me. I haven't told anyone how much I earn. I only pointed out I import 100k into Thailand each month so I qualify easily for retirement visa. I have high speed internet at home so I don't have to walk the streets looking for free internet. I don't have to scurry to a border every couple of months to get yet another stamp in my passport. I feel for you
so why dont u make 5 years visa??They make adress notification only 1 time in 1 year? Why u choose 4 times a year? Are you poor man?And all paperworks every year for retirement extension?
Elite Visa is not viable for me. I'd rather invest my money in something which returns 7-8% per annum. I do online reporting, takes about 2-3 minutes. Only documents each year is one form and bank statement. Takes about 30 minutes. My life is so good and so easy, why would I make it difficult? 😂
so why telling DN to make elite visa then?Maybe for them too not viable. You should just stop your big mouth and stop looking down to people.Everybody is not cheap charlie and poor DN as you think.Everybody has own decision.I have been living here almost 15 years and hate stupid farangs same you looking down to poor people and also you of course looking down to poor Thais as well.Go away man.You are just jerk in Thailand.Stop being arrogant in this country.
I've been here 23 years, I've seen what goes on. If the digital nomads want to keep scurrying to borders every two months it's their choice. And believe me, there's plenty of Cheap Charlies living here.
i also not have to run every 60 days for get a stamp but i not somebody who telling everybody i have a lot money to spend and eat only at expencive restaurants and so on....the way you telling how you live here now it seems as if you are looking down on the people who are not so well off,,that iswhy i react..nothing else
Ok, I see English is not your native tongue and this is why you don't read my post correctly. I never said I have lots of money and I never said I eat only at expensive restaurants. I said I seldom eat street food which is mainly for health reasons, plus I like a decent meal, not a dollop of sugar-sweetened meat dumped on plain white rice. I import only 100k baht per month for living expenses. That's only about $1000 Australian dollars per week. Not exactly "lifestyles of the rich and famous" is it? The OP suggested a one year visa exempt (which no doubt was a joke), because if someone is a one-year tourist they'd have the dosh for a long-term visa. The only people interested in one year exempt would be the digital nomads, because it would save them scurrying to borders every couple of months
maybe tomorrow or maybe never.... until it's in the gazette it's all guessing.

The Thai Government loves to "look into" things, and then suddenly......nothing happens! The problem with a 90-day visa exempt means a lot of those on non-O 90 day visas will probably drop those and go onto the 90-day exempt, which will lose the government a small fortune, as too will the loss of income from the 60+30 tourist visas, so I can't really see it happening. The Thais are not stupid and their finance people will soon work out it will be an expensive venture

Actually the latest rumor is 90 days. But all of these rumors mean nothing until they're put into law
Again, not what I'm asking. Most people here are from countries that will be on such list. No disrespect intended to India, Pakistan, most African countries, etc, it's always harder for them. Any proof or link of such 90 days new visa exempt?
no one currently has visa exempt for 90 days. The only countries who can get 90 days are "visa waiver" which is under bilateral agreement, including the temporary addition of Russians to this group. They cannot get an extension on this type of entry.
But the most recent articles have specifically said visa exempt 90 days so no one really knows anything about how it could or would work, if it's even implemented. I wouldn't hold my breathe.
