Is a joint bank account with my spouse acceptable as proof of funds for the Non-O Guardian visa extension in Thailand?

Hello again,

Any knowledge please on whether or not a joint account with spouse is an acceptable proof of funds for the non-O guardian visa when applying for a 1 year extention on Samui.

Much appreciation in advance for the consistent sound advice. :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general advice when applying for the Non-O Guardian visa extension is that proof of funds should ideally be in an account entirely under your name. While some immigration offices might accept a joint account, it is often required to show double the necessary amount since only half of the funds are considered yours. Therefore, if using a joint account, be prepared to possibly show more than the standard requirement. It's highly recommended to check the specific requirements with your local immigration office before applying.

What is the point of giving advice if you don't know?

It doesn't really matter if you're supporting a half thai or a foreign child here. The financial requirements for extensions of those types do not require any seasoning of funds.

For a half thai child you bank 400K baht and for a 100% foreign child you bank 500Kbaht.

You say you are applying for a yearly extension of stay based on what? Being the parent of a half-thai child or of a 100% foreign child?

You might also check the Thai Immigration website if you haven't already. It's in English and pretty specific. Good luck...Chok Dee.

I would check with your immigration office before you apply for the extension.

The up side IS, if it has to be in an account in your name there is no seasoning requirement meaning the money can be transferred into the account and you could go the same day for the extension.

Have it your own account and save a ton of potential grief - you never know what the policy of the day is so the less complications the better.

As a rule when applying for ANY extension of stay that requires banked money it would need to be an account in your name.

On the occasions the immigration office accepts a joint account they usually require that you have double the amount needed for the extension of stay. Their reasoning, only half the money in the account is yours, the other half is your spouses.
