How strict are they with the proof of funds for 2 months before application for extension based on marriage? For example I have a non o visa and have just opened a bank account and deposited 400k today. Due to Quarantine, the time it took to get an account opened and funds transferred I am concerned that When I apply for the extension it will not be a full 2 months unless I apply for the extension with only a bit over 1 week until my visa runs out... Funds deposited 25th Dec 2020, passport stamped until the 6th March 2021

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai immigration authorities are very strict regarding the proof of funds for visa extensions based on marriage. Specifically, for a Non-O visa, funds must be in the applicant's bank account for a full two calendar months before the date they apply for the extension, which means the timing of deposits is critical. If applicants are unable to meet the two-month requirement, they may consider applying for a 60-day family visit extension to allow time to comply. It's also vital to ensure that the funds in the account do not drop below the ฿400,000 requirement during the processing of the extension.

Thanx one and all for the comments, I think
@Nigel *******
understands there is no leeway on the 2 month seasoning and if he can't get it together fast enough to apply before his current 90 day stamp runs out he can get the visit thai family 60 day extension..

Good luck,

Hi Nigel, I am no expert but I will say that Thai immigration are quite strict about the ฿400k and the two months period. I accidently went below the limit by ฿750 and they rejected my application for a Non-O spouse visa.

I said to the Immigration officer that the money had already been in there for three months prior, he agreed, but at the time of the actual visa stamp, you need the ฿400k to be there for two full calendar months.

I had to get some other visa extension to a wait for the funds to mature, I go back in January to await the result. Good Luck!

I did not know about the family extension option so this has helped massively.

and when you do get your extension they usually stamp you as UNDER CONSIDERATION for approx. one added month...

DO NOT SPEND ONE THAI BAHT OF THAT 400,000 as you will need to take the passbook updated same day to show you still have 400,000 in the account.

when you return as instructed and get your one year stamp...

Then you can use the money...but again MUST BE TOPPED UP TO 400,000 TWO MONTHS BEFORE RENEWAL of your next one year extension.

No added family visit 60 days is available at that time.

As was pointed out in the first couple answers, IF you are going to not make the seasoning (which again is two months before the date you APPLY for the extension not 2 months before the stamp runs out), just apply for the 60 day visit thai family extension, buy yourself another 60 days and then go when you get your documents together and the seasoning hits 2 months

Also one last thing about the seasoning it is specifically spelled out as two MONTHS and that is NOT always 60 days. It's two months date to date, SO if you put the money in the bank Jan 1 it would be seasoned March 1 (which is actually only 59 days :P)

Money needs to be in the account for 2 full months. I came out of quarantine and deposited the money. Did my extension with about 10 days before the end date. The 2 months the money is in the account is the most important. Head to the immigration office to get the list of documents you need so that hopefully you will have all the correct documents the day you apply and don’t need to come back since the deadline will be tight.

Hi, after the 15days quarantine, I had time within 15days to deposit the money a bit more than the 2 months requested (had a 3months visa). So still quite possible and you have the extension suggested above as backup indeed. Good luck!

Thanks
@Tod ********
that has cleared things up and is as I had interpreted it initially. Very tight window I think
@James *******
suggestion is the best option considering the circumstances

the seasoning is two months BEFORE you APPLY for the extension (not the date your current stamp runs out).

SO that means if you're going to apply a month before you current stamp runs out you need the money in TWO months before that.

Indeed, the money must be in 2 months before when you apply and you shall apply before your previous visa runs out. I respected this process 😉 Anyway thanks for the precision.

Ok so it’s 2 months before the date on the stamp not 2 months before the application is submitted
@Vince *********
? How much time did you allow for application before the date on your stamp?

@Nigel *******
I’ve recently had to season money when applying for an Extension, and Immigration advised that the funds had to have two full months in the Bank before I could apply, because they wouldn’t accept the application without that condition being met!

Ok thank you

and
@Stuart ********
very helpful.

They are strict on the time frame. Do what James said and get a “visit family” extension for 60 days and then apply for the year once funds are seasoned.

You can also apply for a 60 day family visit extension which will give you time to season the 400,000 Thai baht into YOUR sole name Thai bank account.
