Hi all,

I’m wondering if the joint account is acceptable for married visa? If it is, how much money should we have in the account?

I have heard that a wife wouldn’t be able to access to her husband’s bank account if he passed away unless she has the consent from his family (children).

Please don’t get me wrong. I love my husband dearly, lol. We better do it right at the beginning, right?

All advices are appreciated. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the acceptability of joint bank accounts for married visa applications in Thailand. While some commenters suggest that immigration typically requires a solo account for visa purposes, others note that a joint account may be considered if it holds a minimum of 800,000 Baht. Concerns about access to funds after the husband's passing are raised, leading to recommendations for establishing a will to ensure clarity and security regarding asset distribution. The consensus emphasizes the importance of individual accounts for immigration, with joint accounts more suited for daily expenditures.

It is always very good practice to have a Thai Will. It is relatively inexpensive to set up. The Thai will will cover all your assets in the kingdom of Thailand. It will make the process of dealing with your affairs so much easier when you do die.

Another thing to take away any fear if he dies, just have him write out a will, and specify where, and to whom everything goes that he owns, including bank accounts when he dies. These are very cheap to do using a lawyer, and will get rid of your concerns about if he dies. He should have one written anyway.

a will is something we all should do but most don’t. We did ours recently and it was completely painless. The piece of mind you feel when it is complete is worth it alone.

. The will is the best way to go, I think. Trying to maintain 800,000 Baht in the bank is a bit too much.

Agree with all above. At Ubon immigration we were told it must be a solo account. My name only.

Not all, but some will accept a joint account if there is at least bt800,000 in it, for a marriage extension, but, very very seldom will they allow it. If you have been doing it for along time, like ten years, then maybe, but no guarantees even then.

. Yes, I also heard about that. You have to have 800,000 Baht in your account if you use joint account.

Can't have a joint account for immigration. You might try a joint signatory acct.
