TLDR : Answer Summary
For a retirement visa in Thailand, it is generally recommended to have two separate accounts—one for each spouse—with the required amount of THB 800,000 in each. Some immigration offices, such as the one in Jomtien, may accept a joint account with a total of THB 1,600,000, but this can vary by location. It's advised to check with the specific immigration office you will be using for their requirements, as well as to consider that if you intend to switch to an income method for an extension later, individual accounts will be necessary.

This is from Jomtiem.

Best to go to the IO that you will be using and ask them.

According to a document I have from Jomtien Immigration if you are applying for two it can be in a joint account with TB 1,600, 000 in and as long as all the details and the rest of the Instructions are carried out it should be okay? However this applies in Jomtien and I have no idea how other office handle it.

But if they want to change to the income method for their second extension of stay, they’ll need to show proof of twelve consecutive transfers to individual accounts during their first year of stay anyway.

They didn't ask about extensions. I answered their question. Besides they should still have 800k in their account so they would only have to find another 800K.

If you are legally married you don’t need to have two retirement extensions of stay, but one and the wife will be dependent on the husbands. Otherwise yes you need to individual accounts.

you are right but my wife is not solely dependant on me. Being dependent on me means she would be wheelchair bound as an example.

for the sake of extension of stay you don’t need to be in a wheelchair to have the ‘dependent’ condition you just need to be married….

I get it. Now you are in denial that you rebuke or criticize anyone. You are the one who began all of this by referring to Frank as a Troll and implying the other gentleman was stupid with your "duh" comment. Like I said...you have no problem dishing it, but you just can not take it.

oh my humblest apology BUT did I ask you a question? You chose to get involved in something that had nothing to do with you and now you cry wolf. Typical cry baby that is happy to start something and feels hurt when they don’t get their way. Move on now you becoming boring. I asked a simple question and got stupid sarcastic answers. You obviously have nothing better to do than get involved in something that doesn’t concern you. Go comment on the next question that you have no idea how to answer but feel your pathetic opinion might be of value!

maybe I wasn’t a member of this group when the question was asked so I didn’t see the reply. But that would mean you have to think before you speak. Now who’s the pot calling the kettle black??

The correct answer is that its not a correct answer as some of the 88 immigrations in Thailand will accept a joint venture account and some other will demand two separate accounts. If you plan to switch to the income method for your second year extension of stay, you’ll anyway need to prove twelve consecutive transactions to two individual accounts during your first year extension of stay.

If the Immigration Office you will be using is Jomtien it says the following in document I have from them. "Account Name/Number. Pages, etc Share account cannot be submitted for multiple applicants, unless the account saved is corresponded (e.g. 1,600,00 bhat for 2 applicants)

How many times do you need to ask this question.

don't worry about me, take care of yourself. The man asked the questions twice before. Received the answers.

Highly recommended to both have separate accounts for many reasons. Also some immigration offices will not accept joint accounts at all.

Can you use a joint bank account if using the certified income method? Thanks
Brandon ************
@Jasmine *******
You don't use any bank account with certified income. You just present the embassy certification.
