Hi. I have just joined this group and would like your advice and help. I am married to a Thai lady (3 years) and we spend about half our time in Thailand (we have a house near Udon) and about half in Canada. I am now 73 and thinking of spending more time in our Isaan home, less travelling, -and not go out of Thailand every 90 days for a border stamp, and getting a "Married Visa" instead. As I understand it though, we would i would still have to report every 90 days to Immigration in Udon near our home?

I have two bank accounts at Kasik Bank, (1) is a Joint Account with my wife and, (2) the other is in My Name Only and has maybe 500 Baht in it. The question is, if I send the required 400,000 Baht ($20,000 Cdn) over for a "married visa", can I send it to our Joint Account first and then transfer the 400 k Baht to the My Name Only account? The reason I would do this, I have it set up with my Canadian bank to send money over easily from my bank in Canada to our Joint Account at Kasik very easily. I am wondering if Thai Immigration cares where the 400,000 k Baht comes from? And to confirm, would this all have to be done 3 months in advance of application? Thanks very much for yiur help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
User seeks advice on converting from a visa requiring border runs to a Thai Married Visa due to plans of staying longer in Thailand. They inquire whether they can transfer the necessary funds for the visa from a joint account to a personal account and whether the origins of the funds matter to Thai Immigration. Comments clarify that the funds must be in the applicant's name for at least two months prior to the application.

@Cuttie ******
actually its TWO months and that is sometimes 60 days and sometimes more. it's date to date. (So if you put the money in on July 1st it would be seasoned correctly on Sept 1st BUT that is 62 days :O )
Robert *******
That is correct, a joint account means the money in the account is from all participants.

the 400K baht needs ONLY be in your account for 2 months before you apply for an extension, not 3.

You COULD have used a joint account if you had twice the amount of money required for the extension you were applying for (800K for a marriage extension and 1.6million for a retirement)

what immigration office was that?

Reading you leave the country every 90 days for border run to activate a new 90 day period I guess you have the 1 year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on being married.

Before a 90 day period ends you can apply at your local Immigration Office for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on being married.

One of the financial requirements is that you have 400,000 Thb 2 months prior application on a Thai bank account on your name, where the money comes from is not asked.

The 90 days reports at Immigration is the first time in person after that you can use computer program and it will take a few minutes,
