Which visa should I apply for in Thailand: Non-O based on retirement or marriage?

Hi, plan to move to Thailand later this year. I'm married to a Thai citizen and more than 50 years old. Not quite sure of which visa to go for yet, O based on retirement or O based on marriage. I have a Bank account in Thailand, but it's a mutual with my wife. I know I have to get an account in my name only. My question is, if I send money to that account, and later transfer it to a new banked money account, would that be acceptable, when showing proof for the needed amount of funds ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering applying for either a Non-O visa based on retirement or marriage, and is unsure about the requirements, specifically concerning the necessity of having a bank account solely in their name and the adequacy of transferring funds for proof of financial stability. Comments suggest that, besides Bangkok, most immigration offices do not require proof of funds origin for either visa type. It is advised to verify requirements with the local immigration office.

worst case (if your office requires proof of funds origin for a Non-O based on retirement) you get the Non-O visa based on marriage, no office requires proof of where the 400K baht came from for that 90 day Non-O visa and then go for the year marriage extension.

OR

Get the Non-O visa from the thai consulate in your country before you come here THEN move the money (as a year extension doesn't require proof of funds origin)

Definitely check with your office well before you try to do this so you know what's what and don't come off the rails

Unless I am mistaken the ONLY immigration office that requires proof of funds origin for a Non-0 visa based on retirement is Bangkok. So as long as you're NOT getting the Non-O visa/extension based on retirement from the Bangkok office you'd be fine

All the rest just need to show the funds in the account on the day you apply and no offices have proof of funds origin for the year extension based on retirement

Also no offices have proof of funds origin for the 400K baht needed for the Non-O based on marriage OR the year extension

I could be wrong, but for an in country Non-O based on being over 50, the rules do state that the funds come from abroad. How wide that rule is applied? Who knows.

Bangkok is about the only one that requires proof of funds origin, Someone reported chiang mai did too but it turned out they didn't

I don't know any office other than bangkok that requires proof of funds origin to get the initial 90 day Non-O visa

Suggest you ask your Thai Immigration office for their requirements for the Non O Visa as retiree and the One year extension of stay as retired.

@Tod ********
Sa Kaeo immigration also requires proof of funds origin for the initial 90 day non-o visa
