TLDR : Answer Summary
The community overwhelmingly deems the proposed health insurance plan inadequate for a 59-year-old expatriate. Many commenters criticized the low coverage limit of 400,000 baht, stating it is insufficient for potential medical expenses in Thailand, especially related to serious health issues. They recommended seeking plans with at least 3 million baht of coverage, emphasized the importance of disclosing pre-existing conditions during the application process, and suggested exploring reputable insurance providers such as Allianz Ayudhya, AXA, and Pacific Cross. Practical advice included looking for direct billing options and considering the rising healthcare costs in Thailand.

Check AIA. I just got a 15M baht max coverage for 58K baht per year - I’m 55.

This looks to be specialised cover for the oa/ox visa. Is that what you want it for or are you looking for general health insurance

If plan1 only gives you 400,000 baht of cover for 38,000 baht, at your age I'd be inclined to have 400,000 lying in a bank account. Once you cross the 60 years old, then the premiums will start to rise.

No offense but this is a terrible plan!!! 400k baht is a very low coverage. 2nd the 2k baht daily for a room would definitely not cover a semi private or private room as most are 3 to 5k a night. I use Jack Levy with MaCallan insurance ... in the past I've also used AXA and Pacific Prime both good too. But this plan really does nothing also don't see if there is a deductible or not but look elsewhere for use. 3m baht coverage + is what u should b looking for mate. Good luck.

Those amounts are very low. Any kind of serious problem and it could end up being a big headache for you. I personally have 10 million in coverage, and as i get older i am seriously debating getting even more coverage before i get too old and my opions start to dwindle. Health care expenses are expected to increase this year and i expect will continue to do so as Thailand is becoming an aging society. If you need any help, please feel free to reach out, but be careful to get a plan that actually has sufficient coverage. If you ever need it (hopefully you dont ), you will be glad you have it .

All I would say is be honest with the pre existing.

Declare everything. Even a disc bulge that was diagnosed 17 years ago . Because if something major happens. They get your UK or wherever you are from hospital records with in hours sometimes.

If they spot something not declared. A lot declare the policy void .
Alessandro **********
@Yoz ********
nobody can get any hospital records in Europe without a court order. That's plain BS.
Yoz *********
@Alessandro *********
noooooooo insurance companies can . There is a well known YouTuber that got taken in with a brain tumour. They nearly didn’t pay out , they got his drs records with in days . He didn’t declare his high blood pressure.

I worked in the insurance industry. Every NHS hospital a records office . We can gain records , without court orders . They release records , so the patient can be treated straight away .

Imagine insurance companies couldn’t gain records 😂😂😂 everyone would just say they are healthy and no conditions you wally 😂
Alessandro **********
@Yoz ********
in your dreams. We have protection laws. Sleep safe you will *never* get any of my records in Italy, you would only get sued.
Yoz *********
@Alessandro *********
when you get rushed to hospital in an emergency. It’s your insurance companies that is the middle man between Thai hospital and your Italian Dr/Hospital. The hospital digitally send over your records to the insurance and the Thai hospital.

Do you think insurance companies just pay the hospital bill and then don’t check your medical history ????????

As if , you are obviously someone hiding stuff yourself or have no insurance.

The Italian records will be sent over to the Thai hospital very very quickly and the insurance can see them .

You are a fool

hospital needs your consent to send your history to insurance, you fkin idi0t! Stop spreading lies, and I'm done with this conversation.

self insured 😂 until you have an emergency and the hospital bill is €90,000 and you set a GoFundMe page up ! Cheap skate who has no cover . No get off my comments stupid boy . You came to me ! Self insured 😂😂😂😂 you only have a couple of thousand euro in the bank and scrape by .

If you are planning to use this for an OA visa then only plan 5 is relevant. If you are not using for visa purposes then I'd look for something else

every person is different and if the proper FA is consulted—they will perform a needs analysis—for example nobody has even asked the client what his pre-existing conditions are—most health plans dont even cover pre-existing conditions—so they recommend a plan that keeps paying—he gets admitted for something related to his pre-existing conditions and the insurance companies refuses to pay—so all the premiums are wasted.I am not talking about an agent—i am talking about a proper financial adviser or sometimes referred to as insurance broker In thailand.

Seems expensive for the coverage, I have my insurance with my homeowner insurance in Denmark and I pay $ 30 Per month.

I am in Thailand right now and was in the hospital with Food poisening, they picked me up in a ambulance, Got out after 5 days when the fever was gone, I fainted and Buster my ribs OMG that hurt Got plenty of drops one with sodium and another with pain killer.

My danish insurance paid THB 60,000 for the whole thing no deductible thank God I am here for 3 months.

I just remember there is a insurance agency called Gouda which should pretty good.

Sorry to say it but stay away from American insurance agencies they just want your money and give nothing in return.

I lived and worked in Los Angeles for 35 years as a bank director so I have seen a little bit of everything.

The director at the hospital I was in told me that the scandinavian world Health insurance is the best in the world.

As a yardstick, three million Thai Baht either in coverage or savings is recommended to cover most eventualities. You would be looking at over 200,000 THB per annum. I take it you have already disclosed all your pre-existing conditions?
Sylvia ********
Myself I would forget outpatiet cover as generally those bills are low, and seek a much higher cover than 400,000 per year if you want to use international hospitals

@Sylvia *******
outpatient covers cancer. Most of cancer treatments are outpatient not inpatient ie : chemo , scans , etc the only inpatient would be surgery and typically the most expensive part is chemo where just 1 round can run $250,000 + depending the drug
Sylvia ********
@John *********
yes if one is unfortunate to need chemo but my insurance covers any stay over 3 hours, so in the past when have a colonoscopy for instance they have paid the costs
John **********
@Sylvia *******
You should read the fine print on your policy and how it relates to any type of cancer treatment .
Sean ******************
@John *********
250k USD? Or BHT?
John **********
@Sean *****************
it depends on the drugs required and some are extremely expensive ...that would be $250,000 dollars ...again it depends on the cancer you have as it varies considerably .
Eric **********
@Sylvia *******
that’s what I have read.. skip outpatient coverage, pay that in cash
Jason *********

I get way more cover than that for a third of the price, but piggyback off wifes company insurance (58 yrs)

Go get a few more quotes all the insurance agents will zero in on your post shortly
Sylvia ********
room and board, this will only cover a very basic private room in government hospital, Banglamung new block is 2500 per night before nursing care
Lili ********
@Sylvia *******
You have lived there for many years what is the best insurance company that bill directly to the hospital because in an emergency situation you do not want to be stuck. Some insurance companies are not good at paying claims. One of the being Canada Life and they bid low to get all the government contracts and then they turn around and quadruple the premium and refuse to pay many claims.
Sylvia ********
@Lili *******
I am with Allianz Ayudhya and previously with companies who have merged with them. I took out the policy 23 years ago, when fit and healthy, in later years I increased the cover and they have paid I'd guess 20 claims, the highest being over 200,000 baht without any surgery. They pay the hospital direct but I have no cover as an outpatient and now in later 60's my premium is almost 100,000 per year. I don't know if they offer something to part time residents, but they do have a huge office in Bangkok.
Sylvia ********
@Lili *******
if you have high blood pressure again many problems will not be covered. So you must have a face to face meeting with an agent, give them all your medical history, all medication and ask 101 questions, then ask for all answers in writing, after you will know what is NOT covered.
Sylvia ********
@Lili *******
if you have high cholesterol you will find many things not included ie. heart conditions, stoke, attacks etc
Sylvia ********
@Lili *******
you must declaim every minor detail to the insurance company, some request a full medical, some won't cover any existing issues, some will cover 2 or 5 years later should the medical condition not reappear. If you have a complaint like diabetes they will exclude almost everything, eyes, heart, organs etc as insulin or lack of causes so many problems, so my husband self covered all his medical costs being a diabetic.
Sylvia ********
In my experience insurance companies pay claims as promised IF everything is 100% correct, BUT you need to read and read pages of small print. The biggest loophole here is renting bikes, having a mishap and claim not paid. Why? Not only do you need a correct bike license from your country BUT also a IDP, many tourists are not aware of that. Then ANY sign of alcohol in the blood claim rejected, not wearing a helmet etc. My small print says if I am a passenger on a bike they only pay 50% of medical costs, if I use BOLT motorbike taxi who never provide a helmet, then they pay NIL of my costs.
