TLDR : Answer Summary
The community shared various insights about health insurance options for expats planning to retire in Thailand. Recommendations included contacting representatives like Tawm Rosendal from AIA and checking WRLife for competitive pricing. However, several participants expressed caution regarding specific companies such as Pacific Cross and David Shields Insurance, citing poor customer service and claims issues. Some users suggested considering international health insurance for broader coverage and consulting a broker for expert advice. Costs and conditions vary, especially concerning age and coverage, so thorough research is vital.

Just a thought. 10 years out and will you still be retired in Thailand or perhaps some other country? For that reason I'm looking at a company that will insure me in a basket of countries. There are many international health insurance companies which offer this. I have not chosen one but I'm looking at April Intl Health. I would suggest to use an insurance broker as their use does not increase the price. I cannot recommend a broker as I have not bought from one yet. But insurance is complicated and I think I'd want to run it by someone who is an expert in the field and who could help me after a purchase if I needed help.

Just whatever you do, don’t use Pacific Cross.

Gosh, Rob, I am so sorry to hear about your health problems and the issues with Pacific Cross. I hope that your treatment goes well and that you manage to get reimbursed by PC. Given your experience, I will steer clear of them. Do you know if there are any reputable health insurance companies in Thailand? I am planning to retire to Hua Hin in late October and hope to meet expats. Cheers, Colin

hi Colin, I don’t normally speak bad of any company in Thailand, but on this occasion save yourself the pain of using this company. I would use AXA or Tokio marine if I had my time again.

a few of my mates JC retired cheap in Thailand, and Simon LOS did videos on Pacific Cross, they are good until you claim

@Rob *********
Why? I had heard good things about them and am considering signing up with them. Have you had problems?

@Colin **********
yes, just had surgery for tongue cancer and also doing radiation treatment, they never respond to emails. They are trying to say my cancer was caused by a STD, which at 60 years old and have been married for 34 years is ridiculous. Well had the tests to rule it out, tests were negative. Not good enough for them they want more tests done. I have been with them for nearly 4 years, have never been sick a day in my life, but when I told them about the cancer they said as you are a fairly new customer you will have to pay upfront and try and claim it back. The claims department never return calls or emails, once you have paid they use the Ostrich method, just put the head in the sand and hope you go away. I can see this heading for legal action. I have a few friends here in Thailand who have also had many problems with them, please look at another company, as when it comes time you use your health insurance you will be be hung out to dry by them. Just look around and beware of Pacific Cross
