To obtain a Thai Marriage Visa, specifically the 90-day Non-O visa, most immigration offices do not require the 400,000 THB to be seasoned in your bank account before applying, although Jomtien does require it to be held for 2 months. For the year extension of stay based on marriage, all offices mandate the funds to be in your Thai bank account for at least 2 months prior to application. It is advised to keep the funds in the account for the duration of the processing period, and once the extension is granted, you can withdraw the funds.

Need to keep in for 3 months and not dip below. Also I had to make transaction on the day applying for visa and same day for statement and letter from bank
you aren't renewing ANYTHING every year.. An extension lasts for a year and then NEXT year when the one you're on runs down, you apply for a totally NEW yearly extension, all new documents, bank letter, funds seasoned in the account for 2 months before you apply. Just like you do the first year. You do this EVERY year, year after year..
It's not near as restrictive as the banked money method for retirement extensions which is 800K baht in the bank 2 months before you apply, keep the 800K in the bank for 3 months after and then the balance can't go below 400k the rest of the year
Marriage extensions only really require the 400K funds in the account for 2 months before you apply
There are TWO separate steps to getting the "marriage visa" inside thailand
You FIRST apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai AND most offices do not require the 400K baht to be seasoned in the account when you apply for that initial 90 day visa (Jomtien DOES require you to have the funds in the account for 2 months for this first step)
The second step is to apply for the year extension of stay based on marriage to a thai and ALL offices require the funds to be in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you APPLY for that extension.
While it's not written into the rules we advise people to leave the funds in the account for duration of the "under consideration" stamp you get when you apply for the year extension.
Once you go back and get the year extension inked in you can pull the funds out.
great answer ... for the funds, actually it's 90 days ... the first 60 days is the proof of funds ... the last 30 days is the time it takes to process the extension ... during the processing period .. it's better to keep the funds in the account , ... one more thing to keep in mind .. they normally visit the family during this 30 days of processing, during this visit, they will check the property and take some photos of the whole family and have a little bit of chat with every member of the family ... better be ready for such visit, because it makes the whole process much more easier for them to decide wither to grant the exemption or request more documents.. happened with me more than once and I was granted the exemption with no question.
just had immigration visit us at our condo, wouldn’t come in because of covid concerns, asked a few questions and were gone. We did need a witness who had to photocopy their Thai id and be present when they attended.
yeah it's NOT actually, there is nothing IN writing that says that you need to have the funds in the bank during the under consideration period after you apply for the year extension.
That is an immigration office thing that some offices TELL people,
We just advise people to leave it in because of that.. BUT just for instance, last year Bangkok was having you update your bank book and bring it in when you went back for the year extension (to prove you still had the money in the account) BUT this year they stopped it and now only give a 3 week under consideration then you just show up and get the year extension stamped into your passport
ohh yes I agree ... some offices will push for it ... Songkhla in my case - some will not ... heard that the visit was not required by some offices, 76 provinces work independently and have their own requirements in some cases ...
yep over 80 offices and each one doing their own thing. Some do the home visit EVERY year, some only the first year, some never do 😮 just have to follow what they say
