Hi, when applying for an Non Inmigrant O visa based on Thai wife (90 days) and the subsequent extension of stay (12 months), in which of the 2 processes one must show prove of deposit of 400K thb for at least 2 months?

In some places I read that you need the money deposited 2 months before applying for the visa and in others that you need it 2 months before applying for the extension of stay.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the Non-Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai spouse, the requirement for a 400,000 THB deposit varies depending on the type of application. While the initial 90-day visa may not require the funds to be deposited for a specific duration, some immigration offices might still request the money to be held for 2 months prior. However, for the subsequent 1-year extension of stay, the 400,000 THB must be deposited for at least 2 full months before applying, as confirmed by the bank. It's advisable to check with the local immigration office where you are applying for any specific requirements.

It depends on WHERE you apply for the 90-days visa

*** in your home country you only need proof that you HAVE a deposit of a minimum of 400,000.- THB or equivalent in another currency on your bank account. The account can be anywhere, you only need to prove it is in your name. No seasoning required

*** if you apply for the 90-days visa on Immigration in Thailand by applying for the “change of visa type”, you only need to prove that the minimum of 400,000.- THB are sitting in a Thai bank account in your sole name. No seasoning required

1-year Extension of Stay:

*** when applying for the “1-year extension of stay permit” on Immigration, the 400,000.- THB must have seasoned for two months and this has to be confirmed by your Thai bank

ATTENTION: Immigration Jomtien/Pattaya has the bad reputation of enforcing a 2-months seasoning of the funds already when applying for the “change of visa type”. Beware!

Nice document, thank you.

You need it 2 months before for both to be safe.

You ALWAYS need it 2 months before the extension.

But only some offices require it 2 months before for the initial 90 day visa.

If you are applying for the initial non-o visa it normally doesn't have to be in the bank for any length of time but some offices may require its there for 2 months. You'll need to check with your local immigration office

The PROOF of your deposit of 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only, MUST be on Deposit for 2 FULL MONTHS BEFORE YOU Apply for the one year extension of stay as Married to Thai.

Where are you going to Apply for the Non O Visa as Married to Thai?

Inside Thailand?

Or outside of Thailand?

Why do you ask, James?

@Toño ******
The Non O obtained outside of Thailand will give you 90 days stamp on arrival...

Then you must meet the same requirement for the One year extension of stay as your local Thai Immigration office requires.

You will STILL have to meet the same financial requirements.

Good question, James. Didn’t decide yet because I still don’t know if I can apply for the Non O inside Thailand having now an extension based on ED visa. If I have to leave Thailand to re-enter with tourist visa then I would consider to apply outside if it’s easier
