The 400K baht needs to be in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension. <- note that is from the day you apply for the extension NOT from the date your current stamp expires :)

Thanks. My friend just freaked out, because several sources said three months before.

And, at least at Chaeng Wattana in Bangkok, they expect these money to stay on account until day of collecting extension stamp (on collection day they request to show updated passbook and provide copies of name page and last transaction page). So effectively money are blocked for ca. 3 months.
