Hello everyone I have a quick question, when submitting the application for the 6 month Multi-entry Thai Visa, I’m hearing you need proof of coming and retuning into Thailand to prove you need the multi Entry. However, I iust need clarification on how many times do I have to show myself coming and going? And can it be any form of transportation?

Thank you so much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a 6-month Multi-entry Thai Visa, you typically need to prove the necessity for multiple entries, usually by showing proof of at least a double entry. However, with recent policies allowing 60+30 days per entry, the need for a multi-entry visa may be less critical. To demonstrate your need, you generally only need to show proof of two planned entries into Thailand, and this proof can include any form of transportation.

Usually you’d just need to show proof of a double entry to show the need for a multiple entry visa.

However now that you get 60+30 days per entry the need for a multiple entry visa is questionable. A single border bounce will give you up to 180 days in Thailand if you qualify for visa exempt.

would any of you know when asked “duration of stay” on the visa application, do i just the 60 days or longer? This is for the multi entry visa

if you are applying for a 60 day visa then do not put a period longer than 60 days. You need to leave and return before 60 days. Not sure if you can get a 30 day extension.

I’m applying for the multi-entry visa, so I show I’m leaving within the 60 days and back within the same 60 days?

I had a 60 day last year. Coming in the IO noticed the visa had an extra digit for passport number from the embassy. He let me in though. When doing the border bounce they could not find the visa in the system. Did the original IO delete it? Since I had the original document the IO supervisor was very helpful and issued the 60 day visa.

Moral of the story, check and double check your visa on receipt.

here if you intend to do more than two entries and spend more than six months in Thailand. Then I would applied for a METV.

The reason is that I just spooked to a father from the US that sendt his son with a completely clean travelling history to Thailand for doing Muay Thai for a period. Since they didn’t manage to do all the paper for a DTV he was told just to do border bounce with visa exemption. He entered fine and did two exemption with extension and spend six months in Chiang Mai. On his third try to enter on visa exemption with a plane from Vietnam he was denied entry and they didn’t even allow him to go and pick up his belongings. Now he’s alone in Malaysia and try to apply for a visa and his father in the US is quite sad and would never sent him if he knew that after six months it could be a gamble to get back in.

There’s no official statement regarding this, but as I’ve said before, if you maximise two visa exemptions in a row or in a shorter period of time, the rest could become a gamble.

I have recently read in the comments, not always a good source of info, that the 60 exempt plus a 30 extension followed by another 60 day exempt on a border run might not be possible depending on the IO.

Also is it best to stay out a couple of days rather than a bounce.

Depends on your previous entry history to Thailand. If you’ve had copious previous entries then you may well have an issue doing a bounce.

For a regular tourist with little or no previous history there shouldn’t be an issue, but as it’s up to an individual IO to decide then there are no guarantees.

yes I know but as as an engineer I like fixed rules. It seems like a lucky dip.

Thanks! I’m planning on spending some time in Vietnam. I could use that as my border run, but I’ll be staying there for like 2 weeks. Should that be enough time to enter back into Thailand for another 60 days exempt?

@Amari ******
Shouldn’t be an issue at all. Immigration Officers are well used to people travelling around SE Asia using Thailand as a hub. As long as you don’t have copious amounts of previous entries and maxing out your 60+30 days they probably won’t question you. If they do have proof of funds (20k baht or equivalent in cash) proof of accommodation (for a few days at least) and proof of a ticket out.

I’ve only been to Thailand once before, last year. So hopefully i can fly under the radar!

I completely understand, I’m kinda the same way but both seem like great options. Thanks for giving me much to think about. I do plan on getting a proper visa to teach English in Thailand, I just want to travel around first!
