What documents do I need to show at the border when returning to Thailand with a multiple entry tourist visa?

Hi everyone!

I have a multiple entry tourist visa and am leaving Thailand for two weeks. Do I need any documents (flight out, proof of accomodation and if so, for how long?) (and/or 20.000 baht?) to show at the border when I come back in in addition to the visa or is the visa itself sufficient?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Thailand with a multiple entry tourist visa, it is advisable to be prepared with certain documents. While the visa itself is necessary, you may also need to show proof of accommodation (like a hotel booking) and proof of onward travel. Additionally, it is recommended to carry a sufficient amount of cash (around 20,000 baht) in case immigration officials request proof of funds.

Agree that "several" days of proof of accommodation is consistently acceptable as proof (and have heard stories that when you present a lease or email from a Thai landlord is it sometimes not accepted unless you show an official document), so the hotel booking is a more reliable thing to bring. The proof of onward travel documents is something I wonder about whether they tend to want to see it when you are on a metv, since the generally point of that visa is that you will come back into Thailand after a brief trip out.

Robert Lagas, I did not jump to the conclusion you are suggesting I am. I am not asking for a full legal determination of immigration law or policy or your personal conclusion of how to manage this situation. I am asking for your personal experience, as a starting point for forming my own conclusion. Thanks for providing that.

I'll be more clear. Do you have experience with being questioned about proof of onward travel when entering on a noninitial visit on a METV? If so, at which border?
Robert *******
I wonder why you wonder about the rules? What ever you wonder about it or what ever you want is not asked: Thai Immigration is allowed to ask every visitor for proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of accommodation.

And to dis appoint the previous commentator. Thailand is a country with rules and regulations. That these rules are not always enforced is something to be happy off, otherwise the time in the queue would be much longer. Thai Immigration is allowed to ask every visitor for proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of accommodation.

Thank you!

As I wrote 8 hours ago, the rules are the same for every visitor to Thailand. Only with a longer history of living or staying inside Thailand using the incorrect visa for that purpose of stay, the chance to getting asked will only gets bigger

This was on single entry tourist visa and a while ago. I did not know if the rules for METV were the same as for SETV, hence my question.

@Robert ******
I have experience in getting questions because of showing accommodations in Samui. One officer took me out of line and handed me over to another commenting something about Samui (my Thai is not great).

Your assumption that they do not care where one goes is not correct.

And as I have understood from many friends one is also very much more likely to get questioned or denied when many visas are in the passport. I never heard of anyone getting questioned or denied with a single visa in the passport.

Padang Besar, by train, most likely.

My understanding is that you are legally required to have

baht on you when you enter Thailand, but it is one of those things where they don't enforce it unless they are looking for a reason to deny you, and they don't tend to check unless you have a ton of sequential tourist visas and you are heading to the islands or some place where work visa abuse is common. I wonder not about the exact laws, but the current tendency to check for these particular documentation for metv holders entering via....which border are you entering Kim?

Are you guys all responding about details required for reentry with a regular single entry tourist visa or the multiple entry visa specifically?

onward travel does not mean it has to be a flight, accommodation booking for the first days is enough as they know tourists do like to go from one touristic place to another.

Thank you for the clear answer. So I guess I should book a flight, even if I might not use it?

Does the accomodation have to be for the full 60 days, or is it enough to have it for the first weeks?

Thailand is a country where anything is possible. Therefore my suggestion is that you should always be ready to show officials sufficient amount of money. Never assume that they will not ask. That is what put people in difficult situation.

I have removed a post with a link to flight bookings ...fake bookings are not to be condoned.

It’s not really ‘simple’ to buy a flight if I don’t want to fly out but take a bus next time. I’d rather not do that if it’s not necessary.

For tourist visa defenitely. If they do not ask and you have the documents. Nothing will happen. If they ask and you have no documents, you will be in a trouble. Simple is tbst

Okay, I was intending to bring the money anyway, what about the documents? I guess I mostly want to know whether I need a flight out or proof of accommodation, and if accomodation, for how long?
