TLDR : Answer Summary
Australians can stay in Thailand for 30 days without a visa upon arrival. This period can be extended for an additional 30 days at immigration for a fee of 1,900 baht, allowing for a total stay of up to 60 days. Travelers should be aware that entry and exit days count as full days, which may lead to confusion regarding the total time allowed. Also, it is possible to extend their stay further through border runs, but frequent usage of visa-exempt stamps may attract scrutiny from immigration officials.

30 days

Visa Exempt on arrival = 30days

Extension 1900bht = 30days

Drive to a Border = 30days

Extension 1900bht = 30days

30, then extension. Then a visa run to another country, and get 30 again.

So what is the cheapest flight to another country from Thailand?

Australian passport holders receive a free 30 day visa exempt stamp upon arriving in Thailand, you also have the option to get a 30 day extension at immigration for 1,900 baht. So basically 30 days for free and up to 60 if you wish for 1,900 baht.

Too many…!

As many as you can stash in your case… get caught, pay the tax

Each entry gets 60 days total; 30 days on entry, 30 day extension an option.

You're allowed two land entries per year, no limit on air entries.

So the answer to the question of how long you can stay here is this: You can do it until you can't.

The more visa-exempt stamps & extensions you have, the greater the likelihood that an immigration officer will look at your history, question you as to whether you're actually a tourist, and potentially deny you entry.

When that cutoff point comes is a matter of luck. Some get questioned after 1 or 2 stamps, others get to stay here for up to or even over a year simply by border-bouncing.

or many years…. But yes, good assessment. If intent is long term stay, then pursue long term visa options at that time

As long as until you're caught and deported 🤷
John ********
Same as everyone else 30
John ********
If you are from the EU or usa and England or any western country you will get 30 days without buying a visa

30. But keep in mind that entry and exit count as full days, so counting exit minus entry date yields 29 instead. This occasionally catches people out. Australia itself counts the days differently.

thank you z Bart I'll keep that in mind.

@Bart *************
or just look at the stamp with exit date they give you and leave either same day or before
Bart **************
@Marc *******
yeah agree, it's easy to avoid :p . But it still catches people out sometimes.
Marc ********
@Bart *************
If they cannot look at the stamp with exit date they will not be able to calculate 29 days on arrival date either😅
Bart **************
@Marc *******
to be fully honest, I also discovered later on that they stamp dates in your passport 🙃
Marc ********
@Bart *************
What? Every country in the world I ever went to gave me an exit date in my passport.
Bart **************
@Marc *******
some do not, Indonesia for instance. And Thailand was the first country to ever stamp my passport. Didn't bother looking at what exactly they stamped until my time was almost up. I left on day 28 so the validity was not at stake, no matter how you count.
Marc ********
@Bart *************
Sometimes I don't even remember the arrival date.

If there wouldn't be a stamp in my passport I certainly would have problems😅

30 day visa exempt stamp received on arrival. Can apply one time for a 30 day extension. So that's 60 days in total.

is the visa extension free of cost?

every extension is 1900 baht in Thailand

while the Visa Exempt entry if free & no need to apply in advance for a Visa, that Extension isn't free though, it costs THB1900. You might be slightly better off to apply for a 60 day Tourist Visa at a slightly lower cost while still in your own country if you will want to stay longer than 30 days

the question was..how many days can Aussies stay visa free. 😊
Damo ***********
@Mark *******
where I went to school 30 + 30 = 60 :D

mark does meth,not math. That boy is struggling here
Colin *********
@Todd ********
I believe that technically,
@Mark *******
is correct. A Visa Exempt entry is 30 days and is free. If one opts to stay another 30 days, that Extension costs THB1900 & therefore is not free & the cost works out a little more expensive than a 60 day Tourist Visa from my understanding
Todd *********
@Colin ********
technically… he is wrong. As you still don’t require a visa for the extension. Not sure how that is complex to grasp. ‘How many days can Australians stay visa free.’ The answer is 60 days

If the poster wants a discussion about relative costs and option, your assessment is totally accurate.
Colin *********
@Todd ********
fair enough that the extension isn't a Visa - understood. Thanks for your acknowledgement in your second paragraph
Todd *********
@Colin ********
yours is a good answer for sure. Some countries seem to have no problems getting the 60 day TV in home country, but others have issues with requirements and long delays. And cost may or may not be more than 1900 baht equivalent.
Mark ********
@Todd ********
Let it go Toddles. You've made a fool of yourself already..no point in stretching it out 😂😂
Todd *********
@Mark *******
I'm also amused at the odd inbred simpleton that show up here. Tell us Mark - what is 30+30 for someone with a single digit IQ?
Mark ********
@Todd ********
go to bed Toddles. Pedos are usually in the sack by 6pm. 🖕

@Todd ********
Which one of you is on top tonight? Must be Damo's turn as the pitcher?

@Mark *******
so the answer is 60. Ur welcome
